Joel Martinez (born May 15, 1983), better known as The Kid Mero, is a Dominican-American writer, comedian, TV host, YouTube star, music blogger, and Twitter celebrity.

He rose to fame with his Bronx native Desus Nice's Uncanny vs. Mero, a complicated TV 46-episode show that debuted on December 18, 2013.

He is a cast member of Guy Code with Desus Nice as of season 5.

He was the co-host of Viceland's Desus & Mero talk show with Desus before June 2018, and currently co-hosts Desus & Mero, which premiered on Showtime on February 21, 2019.

Early life

Martinez was born in Washington Heights, Manhattan, to Dominican immigrant parents. The Martinez family came to the Bronx when he was young and lived in several towns; although Martinez lived in Tremont, Kingbridge, Mount Eden, and Belmont, among other places, he spent time in Throggs Neck, Kingsbridge, Mount Eden, and Belmont.

Martinez discovered he was a natural comedian at a young age, but he wasn't particularly interested in televised comedy or stand-up comedians. He went to P.S. He was a student at the University of Pennsylvania. 0202 Dr. William Dorney, I.S. 117 Joseph H. Wade Intermediate School and Monsignor Scanlan High School, from whom he was suspended in ninth grade until graduating from DeWitt Clinton High School. He then studied at Bronx Community College before briefly attending Hunter College, learning to be a science tutor while teaching as a teacher's assistant.

Martinez, an Afro-Latino, grew up speaking Spanish. He and his uncle wanted to call him "Romero," which is the source of Moniker Mero's name.
