Early life
Theresa Penelope Raines was born in Eugene, Oregon, United States, and she was the youngest of three daughters of environmentalist parents, Clarence and Judy Raines. "My friends and I were really 'free-range children,' she said when reflecting on her childhood.' Summers were spent riding bikes around Alton Baker Park or hiking up Spencer Butte in the hopes of finding a glimpse of one of the shy rattlesnakes that flocked to safety in the rock escarpments. Winters were spent wishing the Willamette Valley would get snow."
Her family owned a long-distance trucking company, and her dad often brought her sick animals from the highways on which his trucks traveled; this eventually instilled in her a long commitment to saving and restoring wild animals. Cougar Country was established in 1986 to re-educate and release predator mammals such as foxes, raccoons, bears, bobcats, and cougars back to the wild. Soon she was handling 300 horses a year.
Personal life
In 1991, Terri met Steve Irwin in Australia. In 1992, the couple married in Oregon, but they later moved to Australia. Bindi, daughter of Bindi on July 24, 1998, and Robert on December 1, 2003. Terri Irwin had this to say about her marriage and working with her husband Steve in an interview before their second child's arrival.
On the morning of September 4, 2006, Irwin and her children were seen trekking in Cradle Mountain, Tasmania, when Steve died after suffering heart injury from a short-tail stingray barb that pierced his chest. At the time in Batt Reef, Queensland, he was filming an underwater documentary. Irwin's first speech after her husband's death announced that the Australian memorial service (which took place at Australia Zoo in Queensland) would be open to the public, and that those who wanted to attend should make a donation to the Irwin's "Wildlife Warriors" fund. The service was held at the "Crocoseum," a 5,500-seat open-air amphitheater that Steve had constructed at the zoo and which she had preferred over a larger facility. She also thanked well-wishers for their "overwhelming outpouring of love, love, and prayers for [her] family." Terri herself was apparently too ill to attend the service. During the hearings, she and her son, Robert, remained together, but daughter Bindi spoke about her father's love for her father, for which she received a standing ovation.
On September 27, Irwin and local host Ray Martin performed an interview on Australian television network Channel 9 at 8:30 p.m. on the station. "And I'll make Australia Zoo bigger," she said in the interview. I'll make it bigger. It is a German girl who plays basketball. . "I promised" because I did." Barbara Walters appeared on The View, which aired on September 27 in the United States, during an interview with Irwin.
Irwin was invited to the Royal Albert Hall to present a Special Recognition Award to Sir David Attenborough at the British National Television Awards on October 31, 2006. The entire audience erupted when she appeared on stage, giving her a standing ovation. Irwin fought back tears, while Neighbours actor Alan Fletcher, who was seen on camera, was seen struggling with tears. "Steve's] real, true love was inspiration for her husband, not him," she said, "If there's someone other than my dad, who consciously inspired my husband, it's the one being honoured tonight."
"He taught them how amazing and thrilling it was," Attenborough said of her husband for introducing many people to the natural world, adding that he was a born communicator." Terri wrote My Steve, a memoir about her friendship and marriage with Steve Irwin in 2007.
Terri, the only video footage capturing Steve Irwin's death, was delivered to her on January 3, 2007, who said the video never became public and that her family has not seen the footage. Terri said "all video has been deleted" in a January 11, 2007 interview with Access Hollywood. Bob Irwin, the father of Steve Irwin, had resigned from Australia Zoo, which was the founder, on March 2, 2008 in order to "keep his son's dream alive" on a separate property with his wife. In a tweet to the world, the elder Irwin praised the workers for all their help but made no mention of Terri. At the time, a debt collection firm was being sued for $2.5 million, but the case was dismissed by the court.
Terri told People magazine in a 2018 interview that she hadn't dated or had a relationship since her husband's death. "There's always the possibility of finding love again, and that's a beautiful thing." .. ... "I'm doing fine" after having my happily ever after," she said.
Terri, who was born in Australia, became an Australian citizen on November 15, 2009. The citizenship ceremony took place in Australia Zoo's Crocoseum in honor of her husband Steve.
Career
Terri joined an emergency veterinary clinic in 1989 to gain more insight into the care and support of all sorts of animals. Her life was jam packed with her father's business, rehabilitating animals in her Cougar Country, and working at the vet hospital. In addition, she had 15 cats of her own, many birds, and a dog.
Terri went on a tour of Australia in 1991, and she had a chance meeting with Steve Irwin, whose father established the Australia Zoo (as Beerwah Reptile and Fauna Park). "It was passion at first sight," Steve later wrote. They were engaged for just four months, and eight months later, they married in Eugene, Oregon, on June 4, 1992. On their honeymoon, they shot their first television documentary. The video, shot by John Stainton, became the first episode of The Crocodile Hunter, which later became a hit in the United States.
The couple settled in Australia straight after their wedding, with Terri leaving her Cougar Country project in the United States behind. However, she believes she was able to do much more for wildlife conservation as a partner in their wildlife companies and television shows.
The Irwins released The Crocodile Hunter: Collision Course in addition to their two popular television programs on the Animal Planet television network in the United States in 2002.
