Teddy Afro Career

Life and career

Tewodros Kassahun Germamo was born in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, on July 14th, 1976, to singer and songwriter Kassahun Germamo and dancer Tilaye Arage. Tewodros is of ethnic Amhara descent. Despite being heavily involved in the entertainment industry, his parents discouraged him from attending his music career.

Teddy Afro made his debut with the album Abugida in 2001, quickly establishing himself as a leading figure in his home country. Yastesereyal's sophomore album, which debunks corruption in the country's government, featured reggae, traditional Ethiopian styles, and pop music. "Hab Dahlak" talks about the breakdown between Ethiopia and Eritrea in terms of couples divorce. Four of the album's songs were later barred from television broadcasting, but "Yastesereyal" sales and influence remained tense.

Teddy's second album was released in 2000 but not in 2002.

Yasteseryal's third album was released in 2005. This album was one of the most influential and controversial. Teddy's lyrical thoughts and the unveiling of this album coincided with heightened political tensions in Ethiopia following the 2005 Ethiopian general election. Four of his songs, including "Yasteseryal," have been barred from appearing on Ethiopian media outlets, according to the government. Since the ruling party was thrown out of office in April 2018, this prohibition was put to rest. He has appeared in Addis Ababa Meskel Square concerts since. Despite this, the album has gone more than a million copies within a few months after its debut.

Teddy Sew's fourth album, Tikur Sew, was released on April 14, 2012, after his breakthrough. The album Tikur Sew (black person) is dedicated to Emperor Menelik II and the Battle of Adwa, the war of colonial resistance between the Ethiopian forces and the Italian Empire in 1896. Since his fifth album Ethiopia, the album became Ethiopia's most expensive and most widely distributed album. The album received a lot of attention from music stores. According to AdikaRecords' producer Ashenafi Zeleke, the music trades needed 500,000 CDs and 200,000 cassettes, and the album was in process for export.

Teddy released "Be 70 Dereja" on YouTube on August 22, 2014, with 9.1 million views in less than two years. Several monuments and places in Ethiopia were featured in a music video shot in 1970s-themed black-and-white scenarios.

Ethiopia, Teddy's fifth album, was officially released on May 2nd and climbed to the top of the Billboard World Albums chart in that month, at a time when more than 600,000 units were sold.

Kassahun held the Adwa!

The Wede Fikir Guzo concert in Addis Ababa Meskel Square on February 22, 2020, attracted a record-breaking audience.

Teddy released "Demo Be Abay," a song dedicated to the Abbay river, also known in English as the Blue Nile River, on August 3rd. The song is a condemnation of Egyptian attitudes, or "Egypt's shamelessness," in relation to Egypt's assertions over the river Nile's waters; Egypt has argued that the flogging of the reservoir would endanger its water supply. He issued "Armash" on November 2nd, which represents Ethiopia's present situation, particularly the Tigray War, and calls for the unification of Ethiopians. Following a massacre of 600 Amharas in the Gimbi district of Oromia Region's West Wollega District, a song titled "Na'at" was released on June 21. The Abiy Ahmed administration's "na'at" was vital in the country's continuing civil war.
