Personal life

Tati is a Latvian immigrant. She married James Westbrook, who appears in her YouTube videos frequently. Taylor, her stepson who appears in her videos occasionally, has a stepon named Taylor during her marriage.

Tati has returned to YouTube in a post titled "A Year Later," where she announced that she will return to her roots of makeup tutorials and reviews as of June 2021. This comes after over a year absence from YouTube, with her last post being a now deleted apolog to another YouTuber, James Charles (see controversy section). In addition, Tati's latest video reaffirms that Tati is still active with Halo Beauty as the CEO, although litigation continues (see dispute section).

Career

Westbrook, a former image consultant and makeup artist, founded her YouTube channel GlamLifeGuru, which later renamed Tati on November 7, 2010. She had no idea what cameras and editing were when she first started. "Beauty tutorials still take a long time, but I've been able to bring this down to three hours at first," she said as she sat down to edit in 2015.

She is "widely thought to be a progenitor of YouTube's beauty scene" and "the mother of the YouTube beauty community," according to Newsweek. In early 2016, she hit the one-million subscriber mark.

Westbrook is mainly interested in makeup and beauty critiques, tips, and tutorials. Tati Beauty, her first product, was a textured neutrals eye shadow palette, launched in October 2019. Westbrook revealed that Tati Beauty was closing in a video citing the COVID-19 pandemic and legal difficulties.

Westbrook formed and launched Halo Beauty Inc., a vitamin supplement firm. Westbrook's YouTube and her company account for $1.3 million per year.
