Tamar Estine Braxton (born March 17, 1977) is an American singer, actress, and television presenter. Braxton began her career in 1990 as a founding member of The Braxtons, an R&B singing group formed with her sisters.

The Braxtons debuted So Many Ways as a trio in 1996 and were disbanded shortly afterward.

Braxton was briefly signed to DreamWorks Records and released her debut self-titled album in 2000, but the company was later dropped due to the album's poor commercial success. Braxton reunited with her sister for the WE TV reality series Braxton Family Values (2011-2013) via Epic Records.

The album was a commercial success, winning three Grammy Award nominations, including Best Contemporary Album.

Calling All Lovers (2015), Braxton's third album, had similar success and spawned the Grammy-nominated single "If I Don't Have You."

Broxton's fourth album, Bluebird of Happiness (2017), debuted on the Billboard Independent chart, and she appeared as a co-host of Fox Broadcasting Company's talk show The Real from 2013 to 2016.

Braxton signed a multi-series contract with Steve Harvey's television company, East 112nd Street Productions, in 2017.

She has been nominated for two Daytime Emmy Awards for her appearances as a co-host on the daytime television talk show The Real.

Tamar Braxton Career

Life and career

Tamar Estine Braxton was born in Severn, Maryland, to Michael and Evelyn Braxton on March 17, 1977. Braxton, the youngest of the Braxton family's six children, first began singing as a child. The Braxton children would later be enrolled in their church choir, where their father, Michael Braxton, was a minister. Toni, Traci, Towanda, and Trina joined Arista Records in 1989 to form their first record deal. They unveiled "Good Life," their first single, which debuted at No. 1 in 1990. On the Billboard Hot R&B/Hip Singles chart, the 79th on the Billboard Hot R&B/Hop Singles chart ranks 79. The members' age differences at the time of the single's debut caused a marketing issue. The Braxtons were then dropped from Arista Records.

Toni Braxton, minus her four sisters, was selected and signed as the label's first female solo artist in 1991 during a preview with L.A. Reid and Kenneth "Babyface" Edmonds, who were still establishing LaFace Records. LaFace's original members were told that it was not looking for another girl group after it had just signed TLC. Following Toni's departure from the group, the remaining Braxtons members became backup singers for Toni's first tour, music videos, and promotional appearances. In Toni Braxton's third single, "Seven Whole Days," she and her sisters Traci, Towanda, and Trina were included in the music video for her self-titled debut album.

Bryant Reid, the LaFace Records A&R Vice President, moved from The Braxtons to LaFace in 1993. However, the company never released an album or single for the brand. When Reid started to work for Atlantic Records, he persuaded LaFace executives to invite him to Atlantic City as well. Traci Braxton left the company in 1995 to pursue a career as a youth advisor, according to Vibe magazine. Traci was not announced until a 2011 promotional appearance on The Mo'Nique Show, in fact, that she was not allowed to sign with Atlantic because of her pregnancy at the time.

Tamar, Trina, and Towanda debuted So Many Ways, a 1996 compilation that debuted at No. 1 in the United States. Billboard's R&B/Hip-Hop Albums chart ranks 26th on the Billboard R&B/Hip Hop Albums chart. Reid wrote in Billboard magazine, "I had a dream for them back then, but it was about young sophistication with sex appeal." On September 9, 1996, the trio also performed a remixed version of "So Many Ways" with rapper Jay-Z, which was also on display at the Soul Train Lady of Soul Awards. So Many Ways climbed to No. 1 on the charts. On the Billboard Hot 100 chart and at number 32 on the UK Singles Chart, 83 appears on the Billboard Hot 100 chart and number 32 on the UK Singles Chart.
