Life and career
Tamar Estine Braxton was born in Severn, Maryland, to Michael and Evelyn Braxton on March 17, 1977. Braxton, the youngest of the Braxton family's six children, first began singing as a child. The Braxton children would later be enrolled in their church choir, where their father, Michael Braxton, was a minister. Toni, Traci, Towanda, and Trina joined Arista Records in 1989 to form their first record deal. They unveiled "Good Life," their first single, which debuted at No. 1 in 1990.
