Takashi Koshimoto Career

Childhood and early career

Koshimoto's parents divorced soon after he was born, and Koshimoto was raised single-handedly by his father. He played baseball in his youth but stopped boxing when his father opened a boxing gym in his local town. Both his father and his uncle will be his coach throughout his amateur and professional careers. His amateur record was 6-6 (6 RSC).

Professional career

In November 1992, Koshimoto made his debut on his first appearance. In 1996, he captured the Japanese featherweight championship, which he defended six times before returning.

He fought Freddie Norwood in January, 2001 for the WBA featherweight championship, but he was disqualified in the 9th round TKO. This was his first professional setback. He won the OPBF featherweight championship later that year, which he defended 7 times before returning.

On January 29, 2006, Koshimoto fired Injin Chi, the WBC featherweight champion. He won by a 12-round draw, becoming the first Japanese boxer to win a world championship at 35 years old. Since his gym had invested all the funds needed for the title match, Koshimoto received almost nothing for the fight.

He fought WBC Youth Champion Rodolfo López for his first defense on July 30, 2006, losing by 7th-round TKO. Following the war, Koshimoto was hospitalized and announced his resignation right away. He went 39-2-2 (17KOs).
