T-Bone Walker Life

Aaron Thibeaux "T-Bone" Walker (May 28, 1910 – March 16, 1975) was an American blues guitarist, singer, guitarist, and multi-instrumentalist who was a spokesman and inventor of the jump blues and electric blues sound.

In 2018, Rolling Stone Magazine ranked him 37 on its list of "The 100 Greatest Guitarists of All Time."

1910–1941: Early years

Aaron Thibeaux Walker was born in Linden, Texas, of African-American and Cherokee descent. Movelia Jimerson and Rance Walker, both musicians, were children. Marco Washington, his stepfather (and a member of the Dallas String Band), taught him to play the guitar, ukulele, banjo, violin, mandolin, and piano.

Walker began his career as a teenager in Dallas in the 1920s. His mother and stepfather were musicians, and Blind Lemon Jefferson, a family friend, often came over for dinner. Walker left school at the age of ten and by the time of 15, he was a professional performer on the blues circuit. He was Jefferson's protégé early on, and he'd lead him around town for his gigs. Walker made his recording debut with Columbia Records in 1929, billed as Oak Cliff T-Bone, a.k.a. "Trinity River Blues" backed by "Trinity River Blues. T-Bone is a robbery of his middle name in Oak Cliff, which he lived in at the time. Douglas Fernell, a pianist, appeared on the album as an accompaniment.

In 1935, Walker married Vida Lee; the couple had three children.

Walker was playing in clubs on Central Avenue in Los Angeles, often as the featured singer and guitarist with Les Hite's orchestra. He appeared with Hite on the Varsity label in 1940, but he was only recognized as a singer.
