Swara Bhaskar (born 9 April 1988) is an Indian actress who works in Hindi film.

She is best known for her support for her work in mainstream productions and supporting roles in independent films, and she has been nominated Filmfare Awards on three occasions. Bhaskar, the daughter of naval officer Commodore Chitrapu, has died. (Retd.) (Khan was born and raised in Delhi.

After receiving her bachelor's degree in English literature from the University of Delhi, she enrolled at the Jawaharlal Nehru University to complete her master's degree in Sociology.

Bhaskar made her debut in the 2009 film Madholal Keep Walking, which was a commercial flop.

In Tanu Weds Manu (2011), she gained more attention for her supporting role as a bride-to-be in the commercially popular romantic comedy.

Critics applauded her film work, and she was nominated for the Best Supporting Actress award at Filmfare. Bhaskar's performance in the critically acclaimed romantic drama Raanjhana (2013) garnered more attention; the role earned her second Filmfare Award for Best Supporting Actress nomination.

She reprised her role from Tanu Weds Manu in the film's sequel and then appeared in the romantic drama Prem Ratan Dhan Payo; both films were among the top-grossing Bollywood films of 2015.

Her starring roles in the independent films Nil Battey Sannata (2016) and Anaarkali of Aarah (2017) earned her further recognition. She was nominated for Best Actress (Critics) for the former and was shortlisted for the Best Actress Award from the Filmfare Critics Award for the latter.

Early life and education

Swara Bhasker, an Indian Navy officer of Telugu descent, and his wife Ira Bhaskar, a cinema studies researcher in Jawaharlal Nehru University, Delhi, is born on September 9, 1988. Varanasi's maternal grandmother was born.

Bhasker grew up in Delhi, where she obtained her education from Sardar Patel Vidyalaya. She later studied English literature at the Miranda House of Delhi University, where she worked with another actress, Minissha Lamba. She obtained her master's degree in sociology from Jawaharlal Nehru University, Delhi.

Personal life

Bhasker has been a vocal critic of the Citizenship (Amendment) Act and Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi. She has been a participant in the Citizenship Amendment Act demonstrations.

Acting career

Before Bhasker began acting in films, she was in charge of N. K. Sharma's "Act One" theater company in Delhi. She moved to Mumbai in 2008 and made her acting debut with the 2009 film Madholal Keep Walking, which was screened at the 33rd Cairo International Film Festival but she was dissatisfied with the box office in India. She then appeared in Sanjay Leela Bhansali's film Guzaarish (2010), alongside Hritik Roshan and Aishwariya Rai.

Bhasker appeared in Srinivas Sunderrajan's black and white thriller The Untitled Kartik Krishnan Project, which was described as India's first mumblecore film and completed in a year, was also the first Indian film to be screened at the Transilvania International Film Festival. However, both Guzaarish and The Untitled Kartik Krishnan Project were box-office failures, and Bhasker remained unnoticed for her appearances.

Bhasker made a name for herself in the 2011 film Tanu Weds Manu, in which she starred as Payal, the lead actor of Kangana Ranaut's best friend. She has been nominated for many awards, including Best Supporting Actress by the Filmfare Awards.

She appeared in "Amaya 2013," which included actor Farooq Sheikh and Deepti Naval's reunion after 28 years, as well as awards from critics. Prem Ratan Dhan Payo, a romantic drama in which she appeared alongside Salman Khan and Sonam Kapoor, was her next release. The film, directed by Sooraj Barjatya, has received mixed feedback. However, critics and audiences alike applauded Bhasker's appearance. The film became one of India's highest-grossing films with a total budget of 400 crore (US$50 million). She was also a participant in the collaborative bilingual X: Past Is Present in the same year. The film was directed by eleven filmmakers, and Bhasker appears in Nalan Kumarasamy's segment, Summer Holidays, where an aunty seduced a young boy so that his husband can rape him. Despite mixed reviews, the film's role of Aunty was lauded. "X: Past Is Present belongs to its women," Namrata Joshi of The Hindu wrote.

In 2016, Bhasker was the lead in Anand L. Rai's comedy drama Nil Battey Sannata, marking her fourth collaboration with Rai. Bhasker was initially skeptic about the film due to the age difference between her and her character. Nevertheless, she changed her mind after reading the script and playing the role of a teenager's mother. The film and Bhasker's performance received critical acclaim, and she was given the Best Actress trophy at the Silk Road International Film Festival in September 2015. She began working with It's Not That Simple, which is a component of Viacom 18's streaming service Voot. The show revolves around the notion of marriage, marriages, a woman's involvement in a marriage, passion, etc. The film stars Bhasker, as well as television actress Vivan Bhatena, Akshay Oberoi, and Karanveer Mehra, with Danish Aslam as the producer.

As of 2013, Bhasker had shot for Abbas Tyrewala's comedy drama Mango, starring Chandan Roy Sanyal and Monali Thakur, which was produced under the banner of Kaleidoscope Entertainment. The film has been infinitely postponed.
