Suvi Maria Riggs, (née Koponen; born 26 March 1988 in Vantaa, Finland), is a Finnish fashion model who rose to fame after winning the 2005 Mallikoulu (Model School in English) contest in Finland. She has worked for numerous designers including Anna Sui, Vera Wang, Marc Jacobs, Donna Karan, Anne Klein, Blumarine, Miu Miu, BCBG Max Azria, Calvin Klein, Louis Vuitton, Nina Ricci and Prada.

Koponen has also had an editorial in the French Vogue shot by David Sims.

Koponen has also appeared in the American Vogue and made the cover of Vogue Portugal in March 2008.

Career

Koponen won the televised Mallikoulu ("Model School") competition in 2005. In Milan, Paris, and New York, she won a model deal with international top Model Agency Women. During the Fall/Winter 06/07 runway season, Koponen made her runway debut at the major Fashion Weeks, but it wasn't until the following season that she truly broke out, walking exclusively for Prada and Miu Miu Miu. For the first time in New York City, Paul Rowland [1], the maker of Supreme (part of Women NY), met Suvi. He created a unique hairstyle for her, and Miuccia Prada told Miuccia Prada: "I have a new star for you." In November 2005 and again in 2006. She appeared on the front page of Amica magazine (Germany) and in newspaper advertisements for Anteprime later this year. Koponen's name was first recognized internationally in 2006.

In 2007, Koponen appeared in five French, British, Italian, and American Vogue publications. She became the face of Balenciaga's fall campaign and replaced Natalia Vodianova as the face of Calvin Klein's collection. Chanel, Hermès, Jil Sander, and Nina Ricci were among the runways in February 2007 for Chanel, Hermès, Jil Sander, and Nina Ricci. She appeared on Vogue Beaute's front page and launched the Jill Stuart, Marc Jacobs, Marni fashion shows, and closed the Nina Ricci show in Paris. In April 2007, she appeared on Dazed & Confused's front page. She appeared in the Mulberry fall ad-campaign with Bette Franke in fall 2007 and starred alongside Caroline Trentini in the Blumarine spring ad-campaign. Suvi was the face of Calvin Klein in a campaign shot by Fabien Baron in fall 2008.

She was named one of British Vogue's "Head Girls" in September 2007, making her a model to watch out for in the forthcoming season. She opened the Reem Acra spring exhibition in New York City and closed the Carolina Herrera, Jill Stuart, and DKNY spring shows in New York. She opened the Alberta Ferretti, Anna Molinari, Fendi, and Just Cavalli exhibition in Milan later that month, and the Alberta Ferretti, Alessandro Dell'Acqua, and Roberto Cavalli exhibitions in Milan followed.

She is a member of Next (New York), Women Model Management (Milan and Paris), Premier (London), Paparazzi (Helsinki), Stockholmsgruppen Models 2pm management (Copenhagen), and IMM - International Model Management.

MTV3 aired a documentary about her and Koponen in February 2008. She says she doesn't "care about weight issues," but it's more important to me that I'm happy and I feel well. What happens to my body is going to happen, and people will have to deal with it or leave this profession." Koponen was also the face of Blumarine once more.

Both the number of people in her family and her lucky number are tattooed on her back. She also has the word "imported" tattooed under her chest, three lines on her left arm, and "Cat" on her right hand, which stands for Catherine McNeil, her model.

"I slept!" she said as she braced for fashion week.
