Sunil Bandachacharya Joshi (pronunciation; born 6 June 1970) is an Indian former cricketer.

He is an all-rounder who bowls slowed left arm spin and bats left-handed.

Early life

Sunil Joshi was born in a Hindu Deshastha Brahmin family in Gadag, Karnataka, India, on June 6, 1970. He used to ride 40 miles (64 kilometers) to Hubballi every morning for practice and then returned to Gadag, his hometown town. Such was his ardent desire and ardent love for cricket.

Domestic career

He competed for Karnataka throughout his career, particularly at the state level. He made an astonishing double of scoring 500 runs and capturing 50 wickets in the 1995-1996 Ranji Trophy season. During the 2004 season, he appeared for Bedfordshire County Cricket Club in England for a short time.

Joshi appeared for Royal Challengers Bangalore in the 2008 and 2009 seasons of the Indian Premier League, and he was unveiled until 2010.

Joshi officially announced his international retirement on June 21, 2012, as well as First-class cricket.

International career

Between 1996 and 2001, Joshi played for India in Test and One Day International cricket. His normal job in the team was to have runs from the lower order and play as a secondary spin bowler to assist Anil Kumble's. Despite being a regular in the national team during this period, he was not selected for the 1999 Cricket World Cup.

In 1999, India's most popular bowling performance came in an ODI match against South Africa in the LG Cup. He had returned figures of 10–6–5 to help India win in the tournament. The success in the Wisden 100 was rated as the seventh best ODI bowling performance to date.

Coaching career

Joshi has been given the role of cricket coach. He has worked with the Hyderabad cricket team and most recently, he has served as a mentor for the Jammu & Kashmir cricket team. Joshi also enjoyed early success with J&K by defeating the Ranji cricket team in the prelim rounds of Ranji Trophy in 2014/15. In his first season as coach from Plate, he coached his team to the Super League Ranji Trophy Quarter-finals. The Hyderabad team is competing in the Vijay Hazare Trophy's second round.

Joshi was named the spin bowling coach of the Oman cricket team in December 2015 ahead of the ICC World Twenty20, which will be played in India in March 2016.

Joshi was named head coach of Assam cricket's next two Ranji Trophy teams in July 2016. Sanath Kumar, a state teammate, has been given the responsibility of Assam's head coach.

Joshi was appointed as Bangladesh cricket's spin bowling consultant in August 2017. He was appointed as the spin bowling coach of the United States national cricket team on a short-term basis in July 2019.

He was appointed as a spin bowling coach for Kings XI Punjab.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) announced the naming of Sunil Joshi, a former India spinner, as the next chief selector of India's men's cricket team on March 4th.
