Stanley Robinson (born January 7, 1979), known as Substantial, is a hip hop recording artist from Prince George's County, Maryland.

In May 2011 Substantial underwent a preventative surgery to remove a potentially cancerous growth from his large and small intestines. Discussing the surgery Substantial said, “The purpose of the procedure I had on May 10th was to remove the section of my large and small intestines, where the growth was located. As I mentioned before, I don’t have cancer but I have decided to do the […] surgery as a preventive measure.”
Career
Substantial has appeared in nearly 20 countries and has collaborated with artists including Kool Herc, Verbal (M-Flo), Oddisee, Jeff Bernat, and others, according to Raptology. Substantial has licensed music to major brands such as Ford Motor Company, Amazon, and Uber, as well as having his music performed in films and television shows such as Kevin Hart's Laugh at My Pain, Kill Me 3 Times starring Simon Pegg, Daytime Emmy nominated show Tough Love and its spin off series Pillow Talk. Substantial has appeared in Freestyle's "The Art of Rhyme" and Give Back. Substitutional wrote and produced music for Renaine, a video game that will be released on the Nintendo Switch and Tree of Savior, a South Korean online game. Suburban gained fame after working with Japanese Hip-Hop producer Nujabes (Seba Jun) and committing to his record company Hyde Out Productions. A Sun Was Born, Substantial's debut album in 2001, was a result of this partnership. The album was a top-ten hit in Japan, and he continued to work with Seba until the producer's death in 2010.
He released his second studio album Sacrifice in January 2008, which was the most popular on website undergroundhiphop.com. Subtetive was a featured artist on both iTunes and Myspace in February 2008. In a full-page feature, Subordinate was included in the Rap/R&B monthly Black Beat Magazine in March 2008.
MTV announced the "Winning Freshman Video" award to Substantial's video later this year. The video, as well as the subsequent interview with Subtitles, was broadcast on MTV's website.
Subliminal produced and unveiled Jackin' Jill in April 2013, in honor of singer Jill Scott's recovery from cancer. It is made up of 17 songs compiled by various Jill Scott songs. DJ Jav curated a collection of reworks and remixes of her work, while Subtiamental's artwork was drawn by Substantial himself.
Subordinate appeared with Hydeout Productions and then became a member of QN5 Music. He was a close associate of Mello Music Group due to his association with music producer Oddisee. Subpoena Reid, the founder of A&R, in 2014, signed a multi-project collaboration with HiPNOTT Records, where he later became the Head of A&R. He now performs music via his company Substantial Art & Music, which he formed with his wife Rachelle Etienne-Robinson.
The Ford Music Service, offered by Mid Atlantic Ford Dealers, showcased Substantial in 2016.
Composer Mason Lieberman collaborated with Sunrise and Funimation in May 2020 to resurrect Cowboy Bebop's dying theme, The Real Folk Blues, in CoVID-19 relief. This track was released digitally and on vinyl, starring original series composer Yko Kanno, the original recording band The Seatbelts, Mega Ran, Substantial, and a group of forty other distinguished musical guests. Following its debut, the band soared to the top of the Billboard charts for "World Digital Song Sales," ranking at #6 on the Billboard charts.

The Hollywood Music in Media Awards announced their 2020 nominees on January 15, 2021, which included Substantial for his appearance on the Arknights OST album Renegade in the category "Outstanding Song - Video Game."
