Stormzy Life

Michael Ebenazer Kwadjo Owuo Jr. (born 26 July 1993), also known as Stormzy, is a British rapper, singer, and songwriter.

In 2014, Wicked Skengman's Wicked Skengman series of freestyles about classic grime beats became a hit on the UK underground music scene, peaking at number eight on the UK Singles Chart after Stormzy launched a campaign to reach Christmas number one.

Stormzy received the Best Grime Act at the 2014 and 2015 MOBO Awards, as an artist to watch out for in the BBC's Sound of 2015 series.

Gang Signs & Prayer, his debut album, was the first grime album to reach number one on the UK Albums Chart, and the first grime album to win British Album of the Year at the 2018 Brit Awards.

Stormzy's debut as a UK top-one single in 2019 Glastonbury Festival with "Vossi Bop" and his headline appearance at the 2019 Glastonbury Festival were widely lauded; he wore a Union Jack stab vest crafted by Banksy in light of the rise in knife crime in London.

Stormzy endorsed Labour Party leader Jeremy Corbyn in 2016 on his second album, Heavy Is the Head.

He did a freestyle at the 2018 British Awards on February 21, 2018, knocking out Theresa May for her apparent inaction in the aftermath of the Grenfell Tower fire last year.

Stormzy encouraged the audience at the 2019 Glastonbury Festival to join him in chanting "Fuck the Government and fuck Boris"—the former London Mayor Boris Johnson's Conservative Party leadership campaign.

Early life

Michael Ebenezer Kwadjo Owuo Jr. was born on July 26th, 1993 in Croydon, London. His mother is Ghanaian, his father was a taxi driver, and he is a cousin of rapper Nadia Rose. He and his mother, brother, and two sisters grew up in South Norwood, London. Stormzy did not grow up in a particular musical household, although he loved music. He attended Stanley Tech South Norwood. He began rapping at the age of 11 and would clash with older rappers at his local youth club.

Stormzy referred to his school years: "I was a very naughty child on the verge of being banned, but I wasn't a bad kid; everything I did was for my own amusement." However, I did well in an exam." On his GCSEs, he earned six A*s, three As, and five Bs, but it was later discovered that "today" ABCDEs showed me that you need a work ethic in life. He completed an apprenticeship in Leamington Spa, Warwickshire, and spent two years in quality assurance at an oil refinery in Southampton, Hampshire.

Personal life

Stormzy is a Christian and read a passage from the Gospel of Luke on the BBC's Christmas Day show. Stormzy has long been involved in a long-term friendship with host Maya Jama.

Stormzy Career

Music career

Stormzy dropped his debut EP Dreamers Disease in July 2014 after gaining interest on the UK underground music scene with his Wicked Skengman series of freestyles over classic grime beats. Stormzy received the Best Grime Act at the MOBO Awards on October 22, 2014. Later that month, he became the first unsigned rapper to appear on Later... with Jools Holland, performing the Dreamers Disease song "Not That Deep."

Stormzy co-produced "I'm Fine" with rapper Chip and Shalo in November 2014, as well as a video for the song.

Stormzy ranked third in the "BBC Introducing top 5" on Radio 1. He dropped "Know Me From" in March 2015, which debuted at number 49 on the UK Singles Chart. In September 2015, he released a final instalment of his "WickedSkengMan" freestyle series "WickedSkengMan" freestyle on iTunes, as well as a studio version of his "Shut Up" freestyle against XTC's Functions on the Low instrumental. On September 24, the track debuted at number 18 on the UK chart, marking Stormzy's first top 40 hit and the first ever freestyle to reach the top 40 in the United Kingdom.

Stormzy performed "Shut Up" during British heavyweight boxer Anthony Joshua's ring-walk for his fight against Dillian Whyte on December 12, 2015. "Shut Up" was released as part of the "WickedSkengMan 4" single EP in September 2015, peaking at number 59. Since the success, it has risen on the iTunes charts and climbed to the top 40. As a result, Stormzy launched a Christmas number one campaign to get the song to number one on the charts. On the 18 December 2015 page 8, a week before the Christmas number 1-week, it gained a large amount of support, resulting in its inclusion in the top ten of the UK Singles Chart, surpassing the chart position of "WickedSkengMan 4" in the top ten.

Stormzy performed the non-album song "Scary" in April 2016 before going into hiatus.

Stormzy returned in early February 2017 after a year of social media, featuring the hashtag #GSAP 24.02. Gang Signs & Prayer was listed as the album's name. The album was released on February 24, 2017 and debuted on the UK Albums Chart at number one on March 3, 2017.

Stormzy's headline appearance on the Pyramid Stage at the 2019 Glastonbury Festival was widely lauded. During "Vossi Bop," Stormzy encouraged the audience to join him in chanting "Fuck the Government and fuck Boris," referring to former London Mayor Boris Johnson's Conservative Party leadership campaign. The show featured guest appearances by dance company Black Ballet and pop singer Chris Martin. Stormzy wore a Union Jack stab vest made by the artist Banksy, which was widely believed to be a warning on the increase in knife murder in London.

He has appeared on the UK Singles Chart four times, firstly as part of "Artists for Grenfell" on June 23, 2017, then with his own solo album "Vossi Bop," which debuted at number one right after its debut, ahead of "Me!" Taylor Swift's collaboration with Burna Boy and Ed Sheeran, "Own It," and fourthly as a featured artist on Ed Sheeran's single "Take Me Back to London" has earned over 500 combined sales, thirdly as a featured artist. Stormzy dropped "Crown," "Sounds of the Skeng," and "Wiley Flow" shortly after announcing his second album, Heavy Is the Head, on December 13, 2019. Stormzy appears as a fictionalized version of himself in the 2020 action-adventure game Watch Dogs: Legion, bringing his protagonist to a mission in which his protagonist performs Heavy is the Head's "Rainfall" plays. Stormzy's motion capture demonstrations of locations, graphics, and the fictionalized future London setting of the game appear in the mission. Stormzy was praised for both his contributions to music and his activism, putting him at number 5 on the annual Powerlist in 2020 with an estimated net worth of £20 million in 2020. For the Mercury Prize 2020, the Head was shortlisted. This was his second nomination in his career. In the Powerlist 2021, he ranked as the third most influential Black British king for his struggle against racial injustice and philanthropy, as well as pledging £10 million to charities.

Stormzy performed "Mel Made Me Do It" on September 23, his first solo debut since 2020. Among other things, it featured a number of cameos from Usain Bolt and Louis Theroux. On October 12, 2022, he announced his third album This Is What I Mean, which was recorded on Osea Island, England. It is scheduled to be published on November 25, 2022. Hide & Seek, the first single to be released, was released on October 14th, 2022, and there is rumors that it is about his ex-girlfriend Maya Jama.
