Stevie Jackson Career

Career

Madness, ABBA, Orchestral Manoeuvres in the Dark (OMD), Depeche Mode, and ABC are among Jackson's early musical influences, with his first album purchase being The Police's Reggatta de Blanc (1979). He was a member of the Moondials, a band that appeared on Electric Honey for a single, the first album by Belle & Sebastian. The Moondials were a pleasurable experience for Jackson, but it took him a lot of work for faux Belle & Sebastian frontman Stuart Murdoch to persuade him to join his company. Murdoch was playing the Glasgow open mic circuit as a solo act at the time, and Jackson first saw Murdoch perform at The Halt Bar.

Belle & Sebastian served as a window for Murdoch's songwriting from the start. Other members have joined the band's third album, The Boy With The Arab Strap, including Jackson Chief amongst them. Both of the band's subsequent full lengths feature compositions by Jackson, and he wrote the band's 2001 hit "Jonathan David" as well as "To Be Completely" for 2006's The Life Pursuit.

For a fundraising cd titled "Super Hits Of The Seventies" for US radio station WFMU, Jackson, accompanied by members of the Glasgow band The Wellgreen, produced a version of George McCrae's "Rock Your Baby." Jackson has collaborated with Roy Moller on several projects.
