Steven Michael Howey (born in San Antonio, Texas) is an American film and television actor.

He is best known for his appearances as Van Montgomery on The WB/CW television series Reba and Kevin Ball on Showtime's Shameless.

Howey has appeared in the films Supercross, DOA: Dead or Alive, Bride Wars, Game Over, Man!, and Something Borrowed.

Early life and education

Howey went from Texas to Denver, Colorado, and then on a basketball scholarship to Northeastern Junior College in Sterling, Colorado.

Personal life

Howey was married to actress and model Sarah Shahi. While vacationing in Hawaii and married in Las Vegas on February 7, 2009, the two became engaged. They had their first child, a son, in July 2009. Shahi was born at home on at-home water. Shahi twins, a daughter, and son were born in March 2015. In May 2020, Howey and Shahi married. In January 2021, the couple's divorce was finalized.

On an episode of The Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson, Shahi talked about how descendant is of Scottish descent.

Career

Howey has appeared on numerous television shows, including ER (1994) and The Drew Carey Show. He has also appeared and produced the independent film Class (1998), which was written and directed by his father and accepted into the Denver International Film Festival.

When Howey was first cast as Van Montgomery in the show Reba in 2001, he got his first acting role in a series. Howey stayed with the show until it came to an end in 2007. With his Reba co-star Joanna Garca, he appeared in Reba McEntire's "Every Other Weekend" music film. He also appeared in Broad City at a cameo.

He appeared in the action film Supercross as K.C. in 2005. Carlyle, a MX racer. In the film DOA: Dead or Alive, Howey played Weatherby, alongside Jaime Pressly and Eric Roberts. He appeared in Bride Wars in 2009, alongside Anne Hathaway and Kate Hudson (with whom he also appeared in the 2011 film Something Borrowed as her love interest). In Stan Helsing, the title role was also played by Howey. Howey appeared in the television series CTRL as Ben Piller in the same year. He has also appeared on the show Psych.

Howey appeared in Showtime's dramedy Shameless as Kevin Ball, a series regular in summer 2010. Howey, the main cast member of Season 2 premiered on January 8, 2012. Kevin Ball then went on to perform as himself until the end of the program.
