Early life
Colletti was born in Newport Beach, California, the youngest child of Lorilee (née Goodall) and Bruce Colletti. Colletti has an older brother John, and an older sister Lauren. As a teen, Stephen attended Laguna Beach High School in Laguna Beach, California. He attended San Francisco State University.
Career
MTV ordered Laguna Beach, which followed wealthy teenagers and Colletti's lives, to be on the program. In September 2004, the series premiered. Colletti stayed on for the second season with the majority of the cast from the first season. "I'm still trying to get some charm to animate his idol looks," the New York Times wrote about his role in the series in 2006. Colletti did not return for the show's third season.
After graduating high school, he attended San Francisco State University for a year before heading to Los Angeles to pursue an acting career. Colletti appeared as himself in an episode of another MTV Reality Television series The Hills in 2007. Colletti appeared on MTV's Total Request Live for a brief period of time.
In Taylor Swift's music video "White Horse" in February 2009, Colletti portrayed the point of love in the role of the lover. Swift says he was chosen for the role because "the guy in the video is supposed to look really sweet and someone who doesn't appear to lie to you."
Colletti was cast in a pivotal role during the fourth season of The CW's youth drama series One Tree Hill in January 2007. Chase Adams, a high school student who wants to save himself until marriage, was portrayed by Colletti. Colletti played a regular role in the subsequent seasons. Colletti was confirmed as a core series regular for the series's eighth season in November 2010. The CW renewed the show in May 2011 for its ninth and final season, during which Colletti retained his regular appearance. On April 4, 2012, the series "One Tree Hill" concluded.
Everyone Is Doing Well Colletti and fellow One Tree Hill castmate James Lafferty created and appeared on the first season of an original comedy called Everyone Is Doing Well. Colletti and Lafferty's first season funded by crowdfunding in August 2018. Colletti played Seth Stewart and appeared as both a writer, editor, and producer in the series. During the first season, he also directed one episode. In January of 2021, the series made its first appearance on Hulu.
