Szostak was born in Paris, France, and was raised in the suburbs. She migrated to the United States to study business at the College of William & Mary in Williamsburg, Virginia, where she competed on the women's varsity golf team. She went to New York City and worked for Chanel in marketing after graduating with a Bachelor of Science in marketing. After taking acting lessons, she then went back to acting.
Szostak's married name is Polish and is pronounced "Sho-stack." She and her husband and two sons now reside outside of New York City.
