Stan Shaw (born July 14, 1952) is an American actor.

Early life

He was born in Chicago, Illinois, and his uncle was Sam Cooke and saxophonist Eddie Shaw, as well as Bertha Shaw and saxophonist Eddie Shaw, as well as Uncles of the late soul singers Sam Cooke and Tyrone Davis. Vaan Shaw, a guitarist, is his brother. He is married to Dr. Zoe Shaw, a writer and psychotherapist.

Career

Shaw began his acting debut in the Chicago production of the musical Hair as well as the Broadway revival of The Me Nobody Knows. Via Galactica, Peter Hall's last Broadway performance, was directed by him.

Shaw was a karate, judo, and jujutsu instructor in Chicago before becoming an actor. He is the first black belt in judo and jujutsu, as well as a second dan in karate. As Esquire Joe Calloway, Shaw appeared in The Bingo Long Traveling All-Stars & Motor Kings in 1976. After being given his locker, Shaw appears in Rocky (1976) as Dipper, a rival boxer who taunts Rocky. He appeared in Tough Enough (1983), Harlem Nights (1989), and Snake Eyes (1998).

Will Palmer, Alex Haley's maternal grandfather, appeared in the 1979 miniseries Roots: The Next Generations, one of his most notable appearances. Private Washington, Cooperative Washington (1978), was another important part of Company C (1978). In The Great Santini (1979), Shaw also appears in Toomer Smalls. He appeared in the 1995 film Fried Green Tomatoes alongside Sinbad, and as a pirate in Cutthroat Island (1995) with Geena Davis. In the film Freedom Song (2000), he appeared as George Tyrell in the 1996 disaster film Daylight and as Archie Mullen.

Shaw's television credits include episodes of Starsky & Hutch, The Moneychangers, Matlock, The Young Riders, The Young Riders, Murder, She Wrote, The X-Files, and a 2009 episode of CSI. He appeared in The Mississippi, a 1983 television series. In the miniseries North and South, he appeared as Isaac.

Shaw is currently working on a film project titled Gargoyle Bob starring Vincent Ho and Ted Boonthanakit. They want to publish a graphic novel based on the story.
