Emily's first appearance in the film Loverboy (2005), which was directed by her father, Kevin Bacon, was her first role.
In the fifth season of the series, James Duff, the show's producer, was compelled by Bacon's appearance in Loverboy to suggest that she play Deputy Chief Brenda Leigh Johnson's niece Charlie.
Bacon accepted the role and appeared in four episodes alongside her mother, who appeared in Chief Johnson despite the fact that her parents were opposed to her being involved in acting.
In the television series 13 Reasons Why, Bacon portrayed Skye Miller.
Early life
Sosie Bacon was born in 1992 to married actors Kevin Bacon and Kyra Sedgwick. Bacon was given a "fair" upbringing, according to producer James Duff, and her parents were determined that she not pursue them into acting.
Career
Kevin Bacon, when directing Loverboy, decided to film his daughter Sosie. When asked about his decision to cast his daughter, Kevin said he made the decision as a producer, not as a father because his daughter was perfect for the role, and "Sosie was cool." She sort of took it out of her system. "Oh, that was fun—now I'm going back to school," she said. In a flashback, Sosie portrayed Emily, while Sosie's mother Kyra Sedgwick portrayed Emily. Emily, Sosie, sang a cappella version of David Bowie's "Life on Mars." "This was characterized as "grotesquely funny" in a New York Times review. Travis Bacon, her brother, was cast in a smaller role in the film. Kevin praised Sosie's work on Loverboy, but said he would not be encouraging her to continue acting further.
James Duff, the Closer's producer, said she was inspired to tell Bacon that they should start acting in Loverboy. According to Sedgwick, who portrays Deputy Chief Brenda Leigh Johnson on the program, Duff wanted to write her into the series since she was 12 years old. However, Sedgwick was against the suggestion, and he was insistent that Sosie's not interested in acting. Duff says he was able to persuade Sosie's parents to participate in a brief period of the series as long as it did not interfere with her education. The deal, according to him, is more like a treaty deal than a contract.
The Sedgwick's interpretation of events was different. She told Duff she would discuss it with her husband, but the Duff went straight to Sosie, who accepted the role, and "there was no turning back" at the time.
Sosie portrayed Charlie, who is left in the care of her aunt (Johnson) and her husband, Special Agent Fritz Howard on the program. The role lasted for four episodes and culminated in what Sedgwick has described as one of the show's most difficult scenes, where Brenda is telling Charlie she does not want me to stay" and Charlie replies with, "Do you want me to stay?" Sedgwick has stated that it would not be unusual if Duff offered Bacon a more regular role in Big Crimes, a spin-off of The Closer series.
Sosie began studying at Brown University and has worked at the musical theatre company CAP21, following her appearance on The Closer. She appeared on Fiction in Photographs in 2012, Dan Mills and Randy Redd's off-Broadway musical.
Sosie was named Miss Golden Globe 2014 on November 21, 2013. Miss Golden Globes is the daughter of Hollywood celebrities chosen each year by the Hollywood Foreign Press Association, and she is usually the daughter of Hollywood celebrities. Francesca Eastwood, the daughter of Clint Eastwood and Frances Fisher, was the outgoing recipient.
Sosie was cast in the leading female role of the independent film Off Season (2014), opposite Chance Kelly. Kristen, the youngest daughter of a couple played by Tim Robbins and Holly Hunter, was cast in 13 Reasons Why Bacon in Here and Now, a 2018-debuting HBO family drama series from award-winning writer-producer Alan Ball.
Dr. Rose Cotter, the film's protagonist, appeared in the 2022 horror film Smile.
