Early life

Siti Nurhaliza was born in Berek Polis (police barrack) in Temerloh, Malaysia, where she was the fourth child in a family of seven siblings to Tarudin Ismail, a police officer, and Siti Salmah Bachik, a housewife. She comes from a musically gifted family; her brother, Saiful Bahri Tarudin, and her sisters, Siti Norsaida and Siti Nursairah, are also performers. Her grandfather was a well-known violinist, and her mother used to be a local traditional singer.

She was involved in numerous school activities, including sports and co-curricular activities, throughout her childhood. She attended her pre-school in Tabika Perkep, Balai Polis Kampung Awah, Temerloh, where she first showcased her early singing abilities at the age of six when she sang "Sirih Pinang," a Malay traditional song, at her kindergarten's certificate-receiving function. She continued her secondary education at Sekolah Menengaan Clifford, Pahang, and then continued her education at Sekolah Kebangsaan Clifford. She won one of her first singing competitions, judging "Bahtera Merdeka" at the Merdeka Day Singing Contest, a local patriotic song competition, in 1991. She was involved in sports, especially in netball, during her time as a student, and it was evident when she competed in two separate sports competitions, particularly in Kuantan, namely netball and 5x80 meter relay. She was also selected as one of the torch bearers to light the Fiesta games, marking its opening alongside Malaysian actress Fasha Sandha.

Siti came from a poor family at the age of nine and had to wake up at 4:30 a.m. to help her mother make and sell various homemade kuih in her neighborhood, where she would sometimes have to carry a tiny table down three flights of stairs to set up a small stall. All the hardships, she said, have not only helped her to be more efficient in spending, but also to be more confident in dealing with the public. She also boasted that the entire experience has helped her vocal skills as she has to shout to call for customers. In addition to singing competitions, she also used to look forward to invitational performances such as wedding receptions and dinner parties, which have brought her closer to performing live.

Despite her good SPM ratings, Siti Nurhaliza has decided against going back to tertiary school to concentrate on her music career.

Personal life

Datuk Khalid's proposal caused outrage and outrage because she was supposed to marry a 47-year-old divorcee with four sons, where she was accused of causing his divorce. However, the matter was rebutted when Jabatan Agama Islam Selangor (Selangor Islamic Council) announced that Datuk Khalid and his estranged wife, Tengku Zawyah Tengku Izham officially divorced in February 2004, after 15 years of marriage, were reported.

E! recognized Siti and her husband, Datuk Seri Khalid, on June 13, 2010. News Asia ranked as the third Most Influential Celebrity Couple in Asia, behind Chinese entertainer Simon Yam and his wife, Qi Qi and Bollywood celebrity couple Aishwarya Rai and husband Abhishek Bachchan.
