Simon Katich Life

Simon Matthew Katich (born 21 August 1975) is an Australian cricket coach and former cricketer.

He captained New South Wales and also played for Derbyshire County Cricket Club until the 2007 season came to an end.

Katich also played for Lancashire, represented his birth state of Western Australia, and appeared in the Indian Premier League for Kings XI Punjab. He began his career as a left-handed opening batsman and part-time left-arm unorthodox spin bowler.

He appeared in 56 Test matches for Australia from 2001 to 2011.

Katich retired from first-class cricket in Australia on June 12, 2012, but he returned to Western Australia in 2013.Katich is currently the Football Operations Manager for the Greater Western Sydney Giants AFL club.

He has also worked as a commentator for ABC Radio Grandstand and the Seven Network.

Personal life

Katich was a student at Trinity College in Perth, Western Australia, where there is a cricket pavilion named after him. In May 2006, Georgie Willis married Georgie Willis. He holds a Bachelor of Commerce degree from the University of Western Australia.

Katich is of Croatian descent. His father's parents were born in Croatia and immigrated to Australia in the 1920s, eventually settled in Perth. Vince Birnie, his father, was a police detective who helped with the capture of serial murders David and Catherine Birnie.

When their son was born in 2011, Katich and his partner Georgie became parents.

Katich is Catholic and is quoted as saying, "My faith gives me a focus in how I live my life and go about my cricket."

Early career

Katich earned his AIS scholarship in 1996 and made his AIS Australian Cricket Academy debut in 1996. He was a central figure in Western Australia's Sheffield Shield's triumph throughout the season, scoring 1,039 first-class runs for the season.

Coaching career

Katich was appointed as an assistant coach of the Kolkata Knight Riders, an Indian Premier League team. He was named Head Coach for Royal Challengers Bangalore in 2019. Katich was fired during the 2021 IPL, but he was appointed as assistant coach of Sunrisers Hyderabad in December 2021. Due to differences with the franchise's auction policy, he resigned from his assistant coach job with Sunrisers Hyderabad on February 18, 2022. He was named as the Head Coach for MI Cape Town in the upcoming SA20 league in September 2022.
