Simisola "Simi" Ogunleye (born April 19, 1988) is a Nigerian musician, songwriter, and actress.

She began her singing career as a gospel performer before releasing Ogaju, her debut studio album in 2008.

She rose to fame in 2014 after releasing "Tiff," a song that was nominated for Best Alternative Song at The Headies 2015.

Simi signed a record deal with X3M Music in 2014 but left the company in May 2019 after the contract came to an end.

On September 8, 2017, she released her second studio album Simisola.

Omo Charlie Champagne, Vol. 3 is her third studio album.

On April 19, 2019, 1 was announced in honor of her thirty-first birthday.

Early life

Simi was born in Ojuelegba, a Lagos State suburb of Surulere, as the last of four children, on April 19th. Simi revealed that her parents divorced when she was 9 years old in an interview with Juliet Ebirim of Vanguard newspaper. She also revealed that she grew up as a tomboy.

Education

Simi attended Stars International College, a secondary school in Ikorodu, Lagos State. She is an alumna of Covenant University, where she studied mass communication.

Personal life

In a private wedding reception held on January 9, 2019, Simi married Adekunle Gold. They had been dating for five years, according to the reports later. Simi gave birth to her daughter Adejare on the 30th of May 20, 2020, becoming a mother for the first time.

Simi began dancing and performing as a member of her local church's choir. At age 10, she recorded her first song at a young age. Following the introduction of her debut studio album Ogaju, which featured a variety of songs including "Iya Temi" and "Ara Ile," she began performing in 2008. Samklef produced the album entirely.

Simi's 5 track EP Restless, which resulted in her first appearance with X3M Music, and she earned her a 5 track EP Restless in January 2014. The EP is mainly made up of covers from well-known artists, including Rihanna's "Man Down" and Adele's "Set Fire to the Rain."

Simi released two singles "Tiff" and "E No Go Funny" on January 9, 2014. Both songs received frequent airplay and received generally positive feedback from critics. Josh Clarke produced "Tiff"'s video on August 30, 2015. At the 2015 edition of The Headies, the artist was nominated for Best Alternative Song.

Simi was named Most Promising Act to Watch at the 2015 Nigeria Entertainment Awards later this year. Simi began working on her second studio album, which was supposed to be released in 2016. Simi was listed as one of the artists to watch out for in 2016 by NotJustOk, who had "Jamb Question." Nigerian rapper Falz appears on the remix of "Jamb Question."

Simi unveiled the Oscar Heman Ackah-produced love ballad "Love Don't Care" on February 14, 2016. It was often airplayed on radio, and it received glowing feedback. In Nigeria, "Love Don't Care" effectively addresses tribalism and discrimination. Clarence Peters produced the song's music video. Simi was nominated for Best Breakthrough Act at the MTV Africa Music Awards in October 2016. Simi worked with Falz on the introduction of extended play Chemistry on October 27, 2010. 360 Nobs' Oghene Michael called the EP a "experiment of the word art." Simi was nominated in three categories at The Headies in December 2016, winning one of them.

Simisola, her 12-track second studio album, released two singles, "Smile for Me" and "Joromi." Both songs were accompanied by music videos directed by Clarence Peters and Aje Films, respectively. "O Wa Nbe," "Complete Me," "Gone for Good," and "Aimasiko" were also released to advertise the album. Simi unveiled the album's track listing on September 1, 2017. Simisola was released seven days later and debuted at number 5 on the Billboard World Albums chart, ranking it at number five.

Simi revealed in March 2019 that she would debut her third studio album, Omo Charlie Champagne Vol., Vol. 1 to coincide with her birthday on April 19, 2019. In a series of social media messages, she revealed this information. The album is a slight departure from Simisola's distinctly afro-centric feel. It's a mash-up of sentimental ballad, Afropop, Afro-fusion, Afro-soul, R&B, EDM, and moombahton. The 13-track album features guest vocals from Patoranking, Maleek Berry, Falz, and her partner Adekunle Gold. Oscar was primarily responsible for the film's success, with additional production from Vtek, Legendury Beatz, and Sess. Simi dedicated the album to her father, Charles Oladele Ogunleye, who died in 2014. Vol. Omo Charlie Champagne, Vol. "I Dun Care," "Lovin," and "Ayo" were among the first two singles to precede "Ayo."

Simi's resignation was revealed in May 2019 after her recording contract came to an end. Both sides did not renew the deal and decided to part ways. Simi unveiled Studio Brat, her own record company, in June 2019.
