Silver King Life

César Cuauhtémoc González Barrón (9 January 1968 – May 2019) was a Mexican luchador enmascarado (masked wrestler) and actor.

He was best known as the Silver King, but he also served as Black Tiger III, the third iteration of the Black Tiger character.

He was the son of luchador Dr. Yenny.

Dr. Wagner and his brother Dr. Mauricio are among Wagner and his sibling.

Wagner Jr. González spent many years with El Texano as the tag team "Los Cowboys," winning tag team championships in both Mexico and Japan. González worked with the Universal Wrestling Association (UAWA), Consejo Mundial de Lucha Libre (CMLL), Lucha Libre (WCW), All Japan Pro Wrestling (AJPW), New Japan Pro Wrestling (NJPW), and various smaller federations from around the world.

In the film Nacho Libre, starring Jack Black, González appeared as the villain "Ramses."

González began wearing his mask in Mexico City in June 2010 as a way to be eligible to wear his mask again.

Personal life

César Cuauhtémoc González Barrón was born on January 9, 1968, the son of Magdalena Barrón and her partner Manuel González Rivera, who is better known by his luchador name, Dr. Wagner. César's two older brothers, scar and Juan Manuel, were among his younger sibling's, Mayra, and a younger sister. César González married Xóchitl Guada Villarreal, a professional wrestler who also goes by the name Xóchitl Hamada, sometime during the 1980s or early 1990s.

César González introduced a wrestler under the name "Silver King Jr.," a masked wrestler who was advertising as González's uncle, but later revealed that the first individual to use the name Silver King Jr. was not his son, disassociating himself from the word "fake" son. In 2014 and 2015, a second wrestler used the name Silver King Jr. until he was unveiled in a match on October 11, 2015, where he gave the name Felipe Garcia González. César González later introduced "El Hijo de Silver King" ("The Son of Silver King"), a mythical son, not a plot. César González, uncle of El Hijo del Valle's younger brother Juan Manuel, as well as Rossy Moreno's former brother-in-law before Juan Manuel and Moreno divorced, was the uncle of El Hijo del Malta, as well as the former brother-in-law of Rossy Moreno and the Moreno wrestling family.

Silver King Career

Professional wrestling career

Both César González and his brother Juan Manuel began wrestling at an early age. César made his debut in November 1985 and began using the word El Invasor (Spanish for "the Invader"). He changed his name and began competing as the Luchador Emmascadero (masked wrestler) Silver King within a year of his debut. In the lower matches on the schedule, the Silver King began serving for the Universal Wrestling Association (UWA). Silver King wrestled in a Lucha de Apuestas (a "Bet" Match) on November 12, 1987, where he placed his mask on the line against El Hijo del Santo's mask. Silver King was forced to unmask and reveal his true name in a sad fashion, but it was here that it was first revealed that Silver King was one of Dr. Wagner's sons.

Silver King formed a team with El Texano that would be dubbed "The Cowboys"/"Los Cowboys" shortly after being unveiled. In 1991, the team won their first tag team championship and became the first-ever World Wrestling Association World Tag Team Champions. When they defeated Gran Hamada and Kendo for the title in Japan and brought the titles back to Mexico, they added the UWA World Tag Team Championship to their collection. They earned their money with the Can-Am Express (initially masked and just named "I" and "II") but later revealed to be Doug Furnas and Dan Kroffat). The Los Cowboys lost the UWA World Tag Team title on June 28, 1992, but they gained a measure of revenge less than a month later when Los Cowboys defeated the Can-Am Express in a "Lucha de Apuestas" match, requiring Furnas and Kroffat to unmask and reveal their true identities. The Los Angeles Cowboys were invited to compete in a tournament hosted by World Championship Wrestling (WCW) during their time as double champions. In a first-round match against the Fabulous Freebirds, the team played at Clash of the Champions XIX and lost.

The Los Cowboys lost the WWA World Tag team championships to El Dandy and Corazon de Leon on July 7, 1993, but the Cowboys recovered them two months later. Villano IV and Villano V took the trophy from them on October 10, 1993, just a month later. Silver King captured his first singles title on October 31st, only 21 days after losing the tag team competitions, when he defeated El Texano for the UWA World Light Heavyweight Championships. Despite losing his own person, the Los Angeles Cowboys did not turn on each other, but they kept on working together. The Los Cowboys severance from the United States and began serving for Consejo Mundial de Lucha Libre (CMLL). On July 28, 1994, Silver King defeated Black Magic in the CMLL World Heavyweight Championship. Not content to compete in the singles' division, the Los Angeles Cowboys won the CMLL World Tag Team Championship on December 16, 1994, beating reigning champions El Canek and Silver King's brother Dr. Wagner Jr. on the 1996 Gran Alternativa championship, although not being a double champion was not enough.

The Los Cowboys started training with the International Wrestling Association of Japan in Hiroshima, Japan, on March 3, 1995, defeating Los Headhunters from the IWA World Tag Team Championship. On the undercard of the IWA's "King of Deathmatches" exhibition, the pair lost the tag team title on August 20th. In 1995, Silver King would also lose the CMLL World championship and the tag team title, as well as the Los Angeles team. He teamed up with his brother and defeated Dos Caras and ltimo Dragón to win the vacant CMLL World Tag Team Championship in February 1996. Silver King joined the North American service in 1997 and vacated the position that he and his brother had at the time.

Silver King began working for the organization as one of the company's many luchadors in that period. He made his WCW debut on Monday's episode teaming with Psychosis and La Parka against Juventud Guerrera, Super Calo, and Ultimo Dragon in a six-man tag team match, which the King's team lost. This was his first appearance in the competition since 1992. King won his first match in WCW on Saturday Night, as he team with Damian and Psychosis defeated Guerrera, Calo, and Dragon in a six-man tag team match. King teamed with Psychosis, Villano IV, and Villano V to defeat Hector Garza's team in an eight-man tag team competition at Clash of the Champions XXIV. He spent his time on multiple tag teams, six-man, and eight-man tag team matches by competing against various luchadors, including Psychosis, La Parka, Villano IV, and Villano V. On the August 25 episode of WCW's first singles match against Ultimo Dragon, which he lost. He made his first appearance at WCW's pay-per-view tournament, where he competed for a future WCW World Heavyweight Championship title shot but failed to win.

On the January 24, 1998 episode of Worldwide, King defeated Lizmark, Jr. in a losing match in an eight-man tag team match. King of Slamboree competed for a quick Cruiserweight Championship title but failed to win. On the 4th episode of Thunder, King received his first title shot in WCW against Dean Malenko, but the match was cut off due to a no contest due to interference by Chris Jericho. On the September 10 episode of Thunder, the King got another title shot for the Cruiserweight Championship against Juventud Guerrera, which he lost by disqualification after using a chair. At Fall Brawl, the two teams faced each other for the title. King lost. King participated in the namesake competition royal for a future World Heavyweight Championship bid but failed to win.

During a tag team match against Latino World Order members Ciclope and Damien, King turned on his tag team partner Lizmark, Jr. during a live event on December 5, Jr. King was given a spot in LWO after the match and he accepted, joining Eddie Guerrero's team, which was primarily made up of the luchadors who had been suspended in WCW for the remainder of their time. However, the group disbanded the following month as Guerrero was wounded in a car crash, and most of the participants left the group to accept Ric Flair's offer of fighting for WCW and being assured of a higher treatment than Eric Bischoff. Following the dissolution of LWO, King returned to compete against various luchadors in the lower mid-card, as well as serving as an enhancement for the upper mid-card wrestlers. Bash at the Beach in 1999 was his first pay-per-view appearance, but he did not have any success in his first pay-per-view appearance, but no one responded.

On Saturday Night's episode "Underdog" defeated Billy Kidman and Konnan, who lost the World Tag Team Championship. On the March 11, 2000 episode of Worldwide against the Mamalukes, King began collaborating with Dandy as the two teams' second tag team championship shot. (Big Vito and Johnny the Bull) King and Dandy's latest effort came when they coerced ring announcer David Penzer to announce their team "Los Fabulosos" before their match against Chavo Guerrero, Jr. and La Parka on March 15th. Los Fabulosos lost the match, but they did have a new manager in Miss Hancock, who gave them a fresh look and some tips. On Saturday Night's episode, the Los Fabulosos won a few tag team matches, including their last televised match in WCW, defeating Jeremy Lopez and Tommy Rogers. At a live event on April 1, the team lost to Harlem Heat 2000 (Big T and Stevie Ray). On May 5, the King was released by his WCW deal.

After leaving WCW, he rejoined CMLL and started wrestling for CMLL's Japanese affiliate, New Japan Pro-Wrestling (NJPW). He adopted the Black Tiger logo, which was previously used by Mark Rocco and Eddie Guerrero, making him the third individual to wear the mask, which is why he's unofficially referred to as Black Tiger III in printed media. As a Black Tiger, he fought many tours with New Japan, beginning with a series of matches against the Black Tiger's storyline rival, Tiger Mask IV in this case. In 2001, he and his brother Dr. Wagner Jr. lost their IWGP Junior Heavyweight Tag Team Championship against Jushin Thunder Liger and El Samurai.

During 2003, NJPW began to phase out the majority of the Luchadors they had hired over the years, and Black Tiger began regularly in Mexico for CMLL, the first time the gimmick was used for a longer period of time outside of NJPW. Since the storyline in Mexico was that Black Tiger was Japanese, they were unable to accept the fact that he and Dr. Wagner Jr. were brothers (in Japan, Black Tiger was always depicted as brothers). Dr. Wagner Jr.'s back-up, but Black Tiger, Dr. Wagner Jr., and Universo 2000 won the CMLL World Trios Championship from Atlantis, Black Warrior, and Mr. Niebla on March 31, 2001. The team will compete in the Trios for more than a year until being unseated on September 9th by Black Warrior, El Canek, and Rayo de Jalisco Jr. When their father (Dr. Wagner) died on September 12, 2004, they became a tecnicó (good guy), but since González was not specifically identified as the son of Dr. Wagner, he was still a rudó (bad guy). Dr. Wagner Jr.'s turn meant that Black Tiger did not have a partner or a direction, and he began his career with the International Wrestling Revolution Group (IWRG) and other smaller CMLL groups, basically in a holding pattern.

Even as NJPW introduced Rocky Romero as the new Black Tiger (Black Tiger IV), González continued to be a Black Tiger, but CMLL decided that because González worked for them he needed a different "persona." He was repackaged as "El Bronco" complete with a new mask and promoted as someone new to CMLL. González made his debut as "El Bronco" teaming up with Elektro (who had just moved from AAA to CMLL) and Los Angeles Park against the original founders of Los Guerreros del Infierno (ltimo Guerrero, Rey Bucanero, and Tarzan Boy). The match was seen as a letdown, with the crowd not understanding Elektro and failing to buy into the "El Bronco" game, and González as El Bronco's replacement in the 2005 Gran Alternativa tournament, where his team lost in the first round. González was the Gran Alternativa González's first appearance in CMLL as González. González continued wrestling as a Black Tiger in IWRG and other independent Mexican wrestling leagues. González finally gave up the Black Tiger name on February 4, 2006, after he lost a "Lucha de Apuestas" to L.A. Park and was unveiled. González returned to being Silver King after losing his mask.

Silver King began working with All Japan Pro Wrestling (AJPW), where he was masked once more. In a departure from tradition, tradition is being disregarded. The Silver King did not change gimmicks, but he was remasked under the same mask he had seen as early as 1987. Silver King captured the World Junior Heavyweight Championship in March 2008 by defeating Katsuhiko Nakajima. As he lost the championship to Ryuji Hijikata on April 29, 2008, he held it for less than two months.

At AAA's Triplemania XVI show on June 13, 2008, Silver King made his debut with AAA, collaborating with La Parka (AAA) and Chessman, as well as La Bossman and Kenzo Suzuki. In the second annual Copa Antonio Pea tournament Gauntlet match, the Silver King competed in the second annual Copa Antonio Pea tournament Gauntlet tournament. He was the eleventh entrant and lost to eventual winner El Mesias. Silver King partnered with La Parka (AAA) and X-Pac to side with Konnan's La Legión Extranjera during a television taping on February 7, 2009.

After La Legión Extranjera was defeated in the main event of Triplemania XVII and Konnan lost control of AAA, Silver King continued to develop the dependable Los Wagnermaniacos with Dr. Wagner Jr., Electroshock, and Ultimo Gladiator. Dr. Wagner Jr., Electroshock's AAA Mega Championship victory at Rey de Reyes in March 2010, and Ultimo Gladiator turned on Dr. Wagner Jr., adopting the new stable name Los Maniacos. The winners of a tag team match between Silver King and ltimo Gladiador versus La Hermandad 187 (Nicho and Joe L'der) were chosen in the weeks leading up to Triplemania XVIII (Nicho and Joe Lder) would have a chance to compete for the AAA World Tag Team Championship in Triplemania XVIII. The match between the two teams ended in a draw, leaving the decision open whether either or both teams will compete at Triplemania XVIII.

Silver King was officially billed as "Silver Cain" on June 6, 2010, both as a reference to the biblical Cain and Abel, as well as a way for AAA to avoid him wearing a mask again. González had already suffered from his mask before, and this was a way to get around it since he was allowed to wear a mask under a new name. He'll only have to use the new name when wrestling in Mexico City. nd ltimo Gladiador defeated three other teams on the night, defeating James Storm of Beer Money, Inc., and winning the AAA World Tag Team Championship, the first AAA title in the United Kingdom. Los Junior Capos (Máscara Ao 2000 Jr. and Hijo de Cien Caras), a youth from IWRG, arrived in the ring to face the new champions for the title after the match. Silver King defeated Máscara Ao 2000 Jr. on June 26 to win the IWRG Intercontinental Heavyweight Championship in an AAA/IWRG inter-promotional match.

On August 15th in Verano de Escandalo, the Silver King continued to face Dr. Wagner Jr. for the AAA Mega Championship but the title was not won until Wagner pinned Vampiro. After the match, King performed an audiotape, where the late father of the two brothers' claim that King was the most gifted of the two of them. This revelation culminated in a match on October 1st Inmortales IV, where Wagner Jr. defeated Silver King in a singles match to keep the AAA Mega Championship intact.

Silver King and ltimo Gladiador had announced their participation in La Sociedad in September 2010. Initially, Electroshock made no official announcement that he would be following them but decided to represent the group in Héroes Inmortales V in order to get his hands on Heavy Metal, with whom he had been feuding the past weeks. However, on November 14, he declared that he was not a member of La Sociedad and advised Silver King and ltimo Gladiador to leave the company. Silver King and ltimo Gladiador retaliated against him after Electroshock knocked La Sociedad down for the second time on Monday, defeating him with La Milicia. Electroshock officially kicked Electroshock out of Los Maniacos on November 27th, while simultaneously announcing that a new member would take his place in the organization.

Despite a three-way ladder match against La Hermandad 187 and El Ilegal, Guerra de Titanes Silver King and ltimo Gladiador defended the AAA World Tag Team Championship on December 5th. Extreme Tiger and Jack Evans of Los Maniacos lost the AAA World Tag Team Championship on March 21, 2011. Los Maniacos was joined by Joe L.der, who accompanied Silver King and ltimo Gladiador during the IWRG Intercontinental Trios Championships from 3 March to April 24, when they were missing them during the IWRG's Guerra de Empresas show. After losing the title to Los Angeles' Los Psycho Circus, King and Gladiador turned on Léder and kicked him out of the group. King and Gladiador joined forces with Chessman shortly thereafter to create La Maniarqua. In a Tables, Ladders, and Chairs match on June 18, La Maniarqua's Electroshock, Heavy Metal, and Joe Lder were defeated by Electroshock, Heavy Metal, and Joe Lder. Silver King made peace with Dr. Wagner Jr. in April 2012 as the two teams came together to combat El Consejo's stable. However, the friendship was short-lived as Silver King turned on Wagner Jr. on August 5th, who survived Máscara Ao 2000 Jr. in a Mask vs. Match of the masks. Silver King Silver King confirmed he was behind El Consejo from the start, naming himself as the head of the rudo stable. However, Silver King was quickly having difficulties with his new colleagues, with Máscara Ao 2000 Jr. wondering how they could trust a man who was capable of betraying their own brother. Since both Máscara A. & Toscano and Toscano left El Consejo, the storyline was suspended. The AAA World Trios Championships defeated Los Philosopher, Silver King, El Texano Jr., and El Consejo's new member, El Hijo del Fantasma, on December 8, 2013. In 2014, he left AAA.

King returned to AAA, where he competed against Silver King Jr., La Parka Negra, and La Parka. Dave the Clown lost to La Parka and Murder Clown in his last match with AAA on December 29th.

Silver King appeared in a number of independent circuit Mexican promotions after leaving AAA in 2014. Dr. Wagner Jr. died at Lucha Libre Espectacular in Palmetto, Florida, on June 27, 2015. In 2016, and 2017, he spent time in England. He returned to Japan on March 14th, 2019 to compete with World Wonder Ring Stardom and Tokyo Gurentai, with Fuerza Guerrera and Diamante losing to Ultimo Dragon, El Hijo del Santo and Shiryu.
