Siddhanta Mahapatra Career

In 1988 Siddhanta started his career with several regional Sambalpuri, Odia, Santali albums, serials, and movies. By 1990 he performed lead and supporting roles in several movies. His first lead role in an Odia film came in 1992 at the age of 27, in Shradhanjali. Siddhanta is best known for his experiments in movies and high-quality Vfx in low budget trend in Odia cinema in Kandei Akhire Luha (1996). He experimented with showing a severed hand in Rakhi bandhili mo rakhiba mana (2000), which was completely new to Oriya films then. The movie Rahichi rahibi tori payeen (2003) showed 100 scorpions, which were again the products of computer graphics. Then, in Dharmara Heba Jaya (2005) and Tate mo Rana (2006), he established his action star image with the two most iconic films of his career. In Dharamara Heba Jaya, Siddhanta portrayed a blind man, while in Tate mo Rana he portrayed the character of a soul which comes back after death. In both these films his performances were experimental.

He joined Biju Janata Dal in 2009 and contested as MP from Berhampur constituency in the 2009 "15th Lok Sabha" election, which he won. He won reelection in the 2014 general election by a margin of nearly 100,000 votes amidst stiff competition from UPA and NDA candidates. However, he lost his third bid.
