Shawn Rhoden (born April 2, 1975) is a Jamaican-American IFBB bodybuilder and former Olympian Mr. Olympia. He won the 2018 Mr. Olympia by defeating seven-time Mr. Olympia Phil Heath.
At the age of 43 years and five months, he is the oldest bodybuilder to win the Mr. Olympia title. TMZ revealed on July 12th, 2019 that he had been accused of a rape incident in October 2018.
An arrest warrant was also issued, according to the paper, and bail was set for $750,000.
He was barred from participating in the 2019 Mr. Olympia and future Mr. Olympia contests as well as upcoming Mr. Olympia competitions, and vice versa.
Early life
Rhoden, a born in Kingston, Jamaica, immigrated to the United States in 1990 and settled in Maryland. Following Lloyd's death in 2002, he went through a period of heroin use, but he fought it with the help of his friend Lenore Carroll.
Personal life and death
Shawn Rhoden and then-partner Michelle Sugar had a daughter in 2015. The couple married in 2018 and soon after. However, they divorced due to personal issues and allegations of infidelity. On November 6, 2021, Rhoden died of a heart attack.
Career
Rhoden began bodybuilding in 1992, drawing on Yohnnie Shambourger, a former IFBB Mr. Universe champion. Rhoden won his IFBB Pro card in 2010 after an amateur career marred by several injuries and alcohol use. He was 11th at the 2011 Mr. Olympia (Mr. Olympia debut), 3rd at the 2012 Mr. Olympia games, and 4th at the 2013 Mr. Olympia tournament. Rhoden came in third at the 2014 Mr. Olympia competition in 2014 and then third at the 2015 Mr. Olympia. He came in second place in 2016. He voted Phil Heath to become the 2018 Mr. Olympia two years ago. Rhoden was the youngest Mr. Olympia champion in the country at the age of 43 years and 5 months.
