Sharon Leigh Bruneau (born February 1, 1964) is a model and former female bodybuilder and fitness entrepreneur.

Early life and education

Bruneau, a French-Canadian Métis, was born in Timmins, Ontario, and her "native history is based on Cherokee blood," she says. Few indigenous Canadian women are involved in sports or even less in female bodybuilding, which makes Sharon even more proud of her achievement.

Career

She began her modeling career as a fashion model, but she was unable to recover after suffering from a bad case of pneumonia, which caused her to lose a lot of weight. She began exercising with weights to regain the body she needed to return to modelling right away. She was rejected by model companies because of her oversized build after achieving a somewhat toned build. She then decided to give up modeling and focus on bodybuilding. Sharon had gained nearly 50 pounds during her bodybuilding career but then had to cut back when she returned to fitness competitions. Bruneau was on the front page of Muscle & Fitness and Flex.

Sharon was one of the first female representatives to be signed by Weider Health and Fitness magazines from 1991-1998.

Sharon retired from bodybuilding after the 1994 Ms. Olympia Games, moving to endurance. Sharon had expected her low success in the 1995 Fitness Olympia after placing 11th out of 17 participants, owing to her muscular strength. Ms. May's 1997 appearance in the United States. The Fitness Olympia's selection process involved awarding points to the women with a balanced body and shaming those who were "overly muscular." Sharon can now be found inspiring people from around the world in her motivational workshops, in which she addresses both health and fitness.

Tornado Run (1995), Nemesis 2: Nebula (1995), Nemesis 3: Prey Harder (1996), and R.S.V.P. (2002). She did minor stunts for the film Smokin' Aces in 2007. Sharon was also given the opportunity to play a bad alien in the film Endangered Species (1982). Many agents were recruiting body builders and wrestlers for sci-fi films in the 1980s and 1990s. This, in turn, opened a new variety of career choices for fitness and bodybuilding athletes.

Sharon Bruneau's Flex magazine showcased her muscular figure in tribal-like clothing, with bones around her neck and a spear in her hands. Sharon's caption said, "I am particularly proud of my Native American roots to which this photograph pays homage."
