Early life

Shakira Isabel Mebarak Ripoll was born in Barranquilla, Colombia, on February 2nd. She is William Mebarak Chadid and Nidia Ripoll Torrado's only child. She is of Colombian and Lebanese descent. William was born in New York City to a Lebanon family. His family immigrated to Colombia when he was five years old. Ripoll and Torrado, the former of which is Catalan, are two Spanish surnames on her Colombian mother's side, who immigrated from Catalonia to coastal Colombia in the 19th century. With the surname "Pisciotti," she has also claimed to have distant Italian roots through an ancestor. She was born Catholic and attended Catholic schools. She has eight older half-siblings from her father's previous marriage. Shakira spent most of her youth in Barranquilla, a city on Colombia's northern coast.

Shakira wrote "La rosa de cristal" ('The Crystal Rose") when she was just four years old. As she was growing up, she was fascinated with her father's writings on a typewriter and asked for one as a Christmas gift. She discovered the typewriter at the age of seven and has been writing poetry ever since. These poems eventually developed into songs. Shakira was two years old when her half-brother was killed in a motorcycle crash; six years later, she wrote "Tus gafas oscuras" ('Your dark glasses), inspired by her father, who wore dark glasses to mask her grief.

Shakira's mother took her to a local Middle Eastern restaurant, where Shakira first heard the doumbek, a traditional drum used in Middle-Eastern music and which often followed belly dancing. She began dancing on the table, and the learning made her realize that she wanted to be a performer. She loved singing for students and teachers (and even the nuns) at her Catholic school, but she was turned down for the school choir in second grade because her vibrato was too heavy. The music teacher told her that she sounded "like a goat." She was often kicked out of the classroom due to her hyperactivity at school. She claims she was also known as "the belly dancer girl" because she would attend every Friday at school, a number she had no idea. "I discovered my love for live performance," she says. Shakira's mother took her to a local park to see orphanages who lived there, in order to instill admiration in her. "I'm going to help these children when I become a well-known artist," she said to herself, "one day I'm going to help these kids."

Shakira was invited to numerous activities in Barranquilla between the ages of ten and thirteen, gaining some fame in the area. Monica Ariza, a local theater director who was impressed with her and, as a result, wanted to assist her in her future, was at this time. Ariza convinced Sony Colombia executive Ciro Vargas to hold an audition for Shakira in a hotel lobby on a flight from Barranquilla to Bogotá. Vargas regarded Shakira as a hero, and he gave the cassette to a musician and artist producer after returning to the Sony office. However, the producer was not overly excited and thought Shakira was something of "a lost cause." Vargas, who was still convinced that Shakira had a natural talent, called for an audition in Bogotá. He arranged for Sony Colombia executives to attend the audition, with the intention of surprise them with Shakira's performance. She performed three songs for the executives and piqued their interest in becoming signed to three albums.

Personal life

In 2000, Shakira began a friendship with Argentinian lawyer Antonio de la Ra. Shakira said in a 2009 interview that their marriage already functioned as a married couple and that "they don't need papers for that."

Shakira and de la Ra separated in August 2010 after ten years together in what she described as "a collective decision to take time away from our romantic relationship." The couple "see this period of separation as temporary," according to de la Ra, who is in charge of Shakira's "professional and career aspirations as he has always done." De la Ra sued Shakira in April 2013, charging for $100 million he owed after Shakira unexpectedly ended her company relationship with him in October 2011. In August 2013, a Los Angeles County Superior Court judge dismissed his complaint.

In 2011, Shakira formed a friendship with Spanish football player Gerard Piqué. Piqué, who is only ten years old, and Shakira met in spring 2010 after being seen in Shakira's "Waka Waka (This Time for Africa)" the official song of the 2010 FIFA World Cup. Shakira gave birth to the couple's first son, Milan, on January 22, 2013 in Barcelona, where the family lived. On January 29, 2015, Shakira gave birth to their second son, Sasha. In Forbes' list of "The World's Most Powerful Couples," Shakira and Piqué appeared. After being together for 11 years, the couple announced in a joint statement that they would be splitting in 2022.

Shakira finished an ancient philosophy course at the University of Pennsylvania in 2020, describing it as an impractical hobby of hers.

Shakira was named in the Paradise Papers in November 2017. She was discovered that she was the sole owner of a Malta-based firm that was being used to sell $30 million in music rights. Her lawyers argued that her employment of the firm was entirely legal.

Spanish investigators opened an investigation into Shakira's finances in 2018 after at least partly to information revealed in the Paradise Papers. Prosecutors said she did not pay taxes in Spain between 2012 and 2014, when she was living in Spain with Piqué and their families, while Shakira maintained her primary residence in the Bahamas during that period and otherwise was touring internationally. A Spanish judge ruled that "evidence of criminality" was sufficient for Shakira to be brought to trial on tax evasion allegations in July 2021.

Shakira submitted applications for three offshore firms in 2021, according to the Pandora Papers. The documents, she told LaSexta, were not filed for the purpose of establishing new companies, but rather as part of the process of dissolving existing companies. They also stated that there had no income or operations, and that Spanish authorities had been kept informed of their existence.

The singer, who had not signed an agreement with the Spanish Prosecution Ministry, decided to go to trial to prove her innocence in July 2022. Prosecutors obtained a seven-year jail term for six suspected tax evasion offenses. After prosecutors accused her of failing to pay 14.5 million euros ($13.9 million) in taxes, a Spanish judge from Esplugues de Llobregat accepted the tax fraud lawsuit on September 27, 2022. Shakira claims she has already paid all she owes ($2.8 million) in interest.

Shakira Career

Career

Magia, Shakira's debut album, was released with Sony Music Colombia in 1990 when she was just 13 years old. The songs are part of a series she has crafted since she was eight, mixed pop-rock ballads, and disco uptempo songs with electronic accompaniment. The album was released in June 1991 and featured "Magia" and three other singles as well as three other singles. Although the album did well on Colombian radio and gave the young Shakira more exposure, it did not do well commercially, as only 1,200 copies were sold globally. Shakira's label advised her not to return to the studio to debut a follow-up video after Magia's unpopular success. Though Shakira was little known outside of her hometown Colombia at the time, she was invited to appear at the Via del Mar International Song Festival in Chile in February 1993. The festival offered a chance to perform their songs, but a panel of judges selected the winner. Shakira took home the trophy for third place on the ballad "Eres" ("You Are") and took third place. Ricky Martin, whose first fame had arisen from his membership in Menudo, was one of the judges who voted for her to win.

Shakira's second studio album, Peligro, was released in March, but Shakira was dissatisfied with the final result, primarily because of the production. The album was more popular than Magia had been, but it was also deemed a commercial loss due to Shakira's inability to advertise or promote it. Shakira took a break from recording in order to graduate from high school. Shakira appeared in The Oasis, a Colombian television series that was loosely based on the Armero tragedy in 1985. The albums have been withdrawn from release and are not considered official Shakira albums but rather promotional albums.

"Dónde Estás Corazón," Shakira's song "Dónde Estás Corazón" was originally recorded. (later released on her album Pies Descalzos) for the compilation album Nuestro Rock in 1994, which was exclusive in Colombia. On radio stations in Colombia, the song was a huge success, and Sony decided to finance her third album by giving her the last chance due to previous commercial failures.

Shakira returned to recording music under Sony Music and Columbia Records in 1995, with Luis F. Ochoa, who influenced musical influences from a number of countries and an Alanis Morissette-oriented persona, which was responsible for two of her new albums. Pies Descalzos, her third studio album, and her international debut album, were inspired by these recordings. After the success of her single "Dónde Estás Corazón," recording for the album began in February 1995. "I'm not sure" is the right word to describe it.

Pies Descalzos, a compilation that was released in Latin American countries in October 1995, and in the United States in February 1996. According to the United States, it ranked fifth on the charts. "Pies Descalzos Sueos Blancos," the U.S. Latin chart's top-ranked position on the United States Latin chart, and "Un poco de Amor" which reached number one on the US Latin chart, as number eight on the U.S. Latin chart, and "Se quiere, Se Mata" has climbed to number five on the US Latin chart, a chart, which landed at number five on the US Latin chart, —untolog -- "Un Poquitos, Sue," os Blancos," which os Blancos Blancos," which Navi —W Latin chart, which —Un poco de —Ge, which a" and "Un Poco dew, "Under" —S. The RIAA awarded the album platinum status in August 1996.

Shakira began her first international tour in March 1996, the Tour Pies Descalzos, or simply the Tour Pies Descalzos. In 1997, the tour attracted 20 shows and came to an end. Shakira received three Billboard Latin Music Awards for Album of the Year for Pies Descalzos, "Estoy Aqui," and Best New Artist in that year. Pies Descalzos' album sold over 5 million copies later, prompting the unveiling of a remix album dubbed The Remixes. In addition, the Remixes featured Portuguese versions of some of her songs that were released in Brazil, where Pies Descalzos has sold nearly one million copies.

Dónde Están los Ladrones is her fourth studio album. It was launched in September 1998 by Shakira with Emilio Estefan, Jr. as the executive producer. The album, which was inspired by an incident in a airport where a suitcase containing her written lyrics was loo loot, became a bigger success than Pies Descalzos. The album has risen to a coveted position on the United States' top 131. Billboard 200 and 10 weeks ago, the top spot on the US Latin Albums chart remained for ten weeks. Since being released over 7 million copies around the world and 1.5 million copies in the United States alone, making it one of the country's highest-selling Spanish albums. "Ciega Sordomuda," "Moscas En La Casa," "Inevitable," "Tu Te Vas," "Octavo d'a," and "Ojos As" were among eight singles taken from the album.

Shakira's first Grammy Award for Best Latin Rock or Alternative Album in 1999 was also recognized in 1999. MTV Unplugged, Shakira's first live album, was released in New York City on August 12, 1999. It is regarded as one of the best live performances by American critics, who have lauded it as one of her best-ever live performances. Shakira began in March 2000 on her Tour Anfibio, a two-month tour of Latin America and the United States. She received an MTV Video Music Award in the category of People's Choice – Favorite International Artist for "Ojos As" in August 2000. Gloria Estefan helped her learn English. She spent more than a year on new material for the album. "When, Wherever" was released in Spanish-speaking countries as the first and lead single from her first English album and fifth studio album during the period between August 2001 and February 2002. The song's instrumentation, which featured the charango and panpipes, was heavily influenced by Andean music. By ranking first in most countries, it became a global success. It was also her first triumph in the United States by ranking number six on the Hot 100.

Laundry Service in English-speaking countries and Servicio De Lavanderia in Latin America and Spain were released on November 13, 2001, Shakira's fifth studio album and first English language album, titled "Laundry Service in English-speaking countries" and Servicio De Lavanderia in Latin America and Spain. The album debuted at number three on the United States' charts, with the single debuting of the album at number three. In its first week, Billboard's 200 chart first week sold over 200,000 copies. The album was later rated triple platinum by the Royal Institute of British Architects in June 2004. It was instrumental in the establishment of Shakira's musical presence in the mainstream North American market. "When, Wherever"/"Suerte," "Under the Clothes," "Objection (Tango)," "Te Dejo Madrid"), "Que Me Quedes T"," "Empire," "Suerte," "Woete," "Under a Horse")," "Today"/"Tango), "Tango"), "Me Not There," "Poem to a Horse," "Tango" ("Te")

Because the album was designed for the English-language market, the rock and Spanish dance-influenced collection received limited critical acclaim, with several commentators claiming that her English skills were insufficient for her to write songs for it; Rolling Stone, for example, said, "Shakira's magic is lost in translation." Elizabeth Mendez Berry's Vibe expressed a similar sentiment: "While her Spanish-language albums shined with sophisticated wordplay, this collection is rife with cliches, both musically and lyrically." Shakira's lyrics are best left to the imagination among Anglophone Latin lovers. Despite this fact, the album became the country's best-selling album of 2002, selling more than 13 million copies worldwide. She released her most commercial album of her career to date, and she was a hit on her career. The album earned her the distinction as the best Latin female crossover artist in the world. "Ask for More," "Pide Más," "Knock on My Door," and "Pdeme el Sol" were all written at this time by Shakira for her promotion in the English markets: "Ask for More," "Pledge Más," "Poe Más," "Knock on My Door," and "Pedeme el Sol" were among her many "Ask for More." Journalist Joshua Klein referred to her as "multilateral, multicultural, and cooperative as they came" in Chicago's Tribune.

Oral Fixation, Vol. 2, is Shakira's lead single. "Don't Bother," the top 40 on the Hot 100, failed to achieve chart success in the United States. It did, however, rank in the top 20 in most nations around the world. Oral Fixation, Vol. 2, is Shakira's second English studio album and seventh studio album.
