Shad Gaspard (born January 13, 1981) is an American professional wrestler and comedian.

Gaspard is best known for his time with WWE, where he appeared in films and television series including Think Like a Man Too, Get Hard, The Game, and From Dusk to Dawn: The Series.

He is also the co-creator of the graphic novel Assassin & Son.

Early life

Shad Gaspard was born in New York City's Brooklyn borough on January 13, 1981, and he was of Curaçaoan and Haitian descent. Shad's father was a former enforcer for street gangs and later a personal security guard in the early 1970s; he worked with gangster Frank Lucas and now owns McFay Contracting Inc., and at age eight, he began training in a mixture of martial arts, including judo, kickboxing, Jeet Kune Do and Muay Thai.

In bar wrestling tournaments such as boxing, kickboxing, MMA, and tough man competitions, Gaspard began prize fighting for promoter Hardbody Harrison, a former WCW wrestler and FX Tough Man Champion, at the age of 16. Despite being 16 years old, he still competed against adults who were up to 20 years older due to his large stature. He set new records in MMA (35–7) and amateur boxing (57–26). During his time in high school, he was heavily involved in athletics, specializing in wrestling, track, and basketball. After high school, he began to play basketball at Georgia Perimeter College. Since leaving, he became a bodyguard for a number of celebrities, including P. Diddy and Mike Tyson.

Personal life

In 2009, Gaspard married Siliana, a fitness model and actress. In April 2010, they had a boy named Aryeh.

When an intoxicated man was about to rob a gas station in Coral Springs, Florida, Gaspard stopped him from armed robbery. The man was gaspardized, took his weapon and restrained him until police arrived.

Professional wrestling career

Gaspard decided to become a professional wrestler, and he qualified for the finals of reality television series Tough Enough 2 in 2002, but he was disqualified and suspended after failing a physical exam.

Gaspard was recruited by WWE talent scout Tom Prichard and allowed to pursue a career as a professional wrestler after Tough Enough. He started training with Dewayne Bruce from the WCW Power Plant for six months. He was later signed to a developmental deal by World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE) and was assigned to Ohio Valley Wrestling (OVW). Gaspard made his OVW debut in 2003 under the ring name 'Da Beast,' before joining Bolin Services stable, which was led by Kenny Bolin. He served as Bolin's personal enforcer until he was drafted into a tag team with Carlos Colón, Jr. in February 2004. Gaspard left Bolin Services and formed several short-lived tag teams with Osama, Mike Mondo, Ken Doane, and Ryan Wilson before starting wrestling under his real name as a singles wrestler.

Gaspard joined The Neighborhoodie in early 2006 and formed The Gang Stars, a new tag team based on a feud with CM Punk in OVW. The Gang Stars won the OVW Southern Tag Team Championship on May 27, but they lost the titles to CM Punk and Seth Skyfire on July 28.

On the premiere of Cryme Tyme (Gaspard and The Neighborhoodie), a series of vignettes debuted on Raw, with Neighborhoodie's ring name changing to JTG. Cryme Tyme made their in-ring debut on October 16, defeating then-World Tag Team Champions The Spirit Squad (Mikey and Johnny) in a non-title match. The pair made their pay-per-view debut at Cyber Sunday, where Cryme Tyme defeated Lance Cade and Trevor Murdoch, Charlie Haas and Viscera and The Highlanders (Robbie McAllister and Rory McAllister) in a Texas Tornado match (as voted by the fans). Cryme Tyme of The New Year's Revolution pay-per-view video, Lance Cade and Trevor Murdoch, The World's Best Tag Team (Charlie Haas and Shelton Benjamin), Lance Cade and Trevor Murdoch, and Jim Duggan and Super Crazy all won a Tag Team Turmoil Match against The Highlanders, the World's Best Tag Team (Charlie Haas and Trevor Murdoch), and Jim Duggan and Trevor Murdoch, earning them adoutput: Cryme Tyme Tyme Tyme Tyme Tyme Tyme Tyme -per-per-Provid, Cry, and Trevor Murdoch Team's (Charlie Benjamin), Cry, &May, and Trevor Murdoch, and Trevor Murdoch, Cry, ay, ay, Cry, Cry, Giving them aion Team's, Giving them a Capt Team (Charlie Murdoch, giving them ad, Giving them a Younger, Giving them a, Giving them a, giving them a, giving them a Terror, Aston (Charlie Murdoch) and Trevor Murdoch, Afin's, Cryme Tyme Tyme Tyke and Trevor Murdoch, Giving them a a. Cryme Tyme appeared on WrestleMania 23, beginning with a dance party with Eugene and some WWE stars in the backstage area on April 1, 2007. Deuce 'n Domino (with Cherry) defeated Cryme Tyme in an inter-brand match tag match on June 29 of SmackDown! Although Deuce, Domino, and Cherry won, Cryme Tyme stole their car, taking it to Brisco Brothers Auto Shop to sell it for parts. "Money, money, yeah, yeah." Cryme Tyme returned to OVW and regained the OVW Southern Tag Team Championship on July 21 from The James Boys (KC James and Kassidy James), becoming two-time tag team champions, but they lost the titles back to them the following day.

Cryme Tyme's hometown of New York City had been lost to Lance Cade and Trevor Murdoch in a non-title match devoid of qualification, when Gaspard used a chair on Murdoch in the episode on August 13. Cryme Tyme stole Murdoch's hat and gave it to a fan, igniting a feud between them. However, Gaspard and JTG were both suspended from their WWE contracts on September 2, 2007.

Gaspard lost to Psicosis at a Pro Wrestling Alliance (PWA) meet in Houston, Texas, after being banned from WWE, Gaspard lost to Psicosis. At the Jersey All Pro Wrestling's (JAPW) 10th Anniversary Show on October 27, 2007, Gaspard and JTG fought at the Jersey All Pro Wrestling's (JAPW) 10th Anniversary Exhibition, defeating The Dirty Rotten Scoundrelz. After defeating Style and Finesse (Mike Donovan and Rob Vegas) in January 2008's Reclaim Hudson contest, the promotion remained undefeated.

Cryme Tyme, defeating Lance Cade and Trevor Murdoch on March 31, 2008, WWE's Cryme Tyme returned to WWE as Cryme Tyme. On the 30th episode of Raw, Cryme Tyme and John Cena appeared when they supported him during John "Bradshaw" Layfield's (JBL) match. They appeared together in a backstage segment together this week as they vandalized JBL's limousine. Cena revealed they had formed a clan and revealed that it was named Cryme Tyme Cenation (CTC). Cody Rhodes and Ted DiBiase, both of whom are now fighting for a while and then losing a championship match to them at the Unforgiven pay-per-view tournament.

As part of the Draft, Cryme Tyme was drafted to the SmackDown brand on April 15, 2009. They made their debut on television on May 1stDown's May 1 episode, hosting a dance competition between Eve Torres and Layla. The squad made their in-ring debut on May 22's SmackDown episode, where they worked with John Morrison to defeat The World's Greatest Tag Team and Ricky Ortiz. Cryme Tyme defeated The Hart Dynasty (David Hart Smith and Tyson Kidd) to become the top contenders for the Unified WWE Tag Team Championship on July 31. They were unable to gain the titles against Jeri-Show at SummerSlam (Chris Jericho and Big Show). Gaspard defeated JetGallows in a brawl on March 28, 2010, before Gaspard and JTG eliminated Luke Gallows, and Shad was later dismissed by William Regal.

After Cryme Tyme's loss of a match, Gaspard screamed JTG, knocking out the Cryme Tyme and disbanding Cryme Tyme in the process. Gaspard taunted JTG by showing video of the assault, and JTG threatened to punish him but Gaspard denied it. Gaspard attacked JTG the following week, but the JTG was eventually defeated, but the JTG was subsequently salvaged. Goldust was defeated in the WWE Superstars episode on April 22nd, sporting new clothing and a new theme tune. Their feud culminated in a strap match at Extreme Rules, which JTG won. On the May 6 episode of Superstars, the two teams clashed again, with Gaspard being victorious and thus ending their feud. Gaspard made his last television appearance on SmackDown's May 14 episode, where he stunned Jesse Guyver. He was fired from his WWE contract on November 19, 2010.

Gaspard left Japan on February 5, 2011 and spent time for Inoki's Inoki Genome Federation (IGF), where he joined Bobby Lashley in a loss to Atsushi Sawada and Erik Hammer.

Gaspard returned to the independent circuit for the second time after being banned by WWE, and he defeated Charlie Haas at FWE Retribution in New York City on January 22, 2011. He lost to Big Daddy V at WrestleRama in Georgetown, Ghana, on March 31, 2012. Gaspard and JTG were looking for booking as the slightly modified Crime Time was revealed by WWE on June 19, 2014, as JTG was released by WWE. On August 23, 2014, they competed in the Warriors of Wrestling promotion in Staten Island for the first time on their Crime Time World Tour. Crime Time defeated Damien Darling and Danny Demento in a tag team match at the JAPW's 18th Anniversary Exhibition on November 15, 2014. Gaspard went on to compete with JTG until his death in 2020.
