Personal life
Shabir is a singesh singer who was born in Singapore. Tiruvannamalai, Tamil Nadu, is his father's origins. He is a blend of a Tamil speaking father and a Malay/Tamil mother. Shabir began songwriting at an early age and composed his first song at the age of 12.
Career
Shabir began writing and performing when he was 12 years old. He started off as a self-taught keyboardist, and later learned Hindustani Classical Music under the tutelage of violinist Sri Veereshwar Madhri and guitarist Steeve Vatz. Shabir earned a bachelor's degree in music production and composition, and he is a lumnus of SAE Singapore.
Shabir remains one of the top recording artists in Singapore with a large fanbase, having released three albums, 'Alaipayuje, 'TraffiQ, and 'Swasam-Scents of Prose.' Shabir's music is described as an eclectic mix of many styles and influences, including pop, indie, experimental rock, and world music. Shabir's lyrical style includes wordplay, metaphor, and he often experiments with cadence. His edgy vocal interpretation has a distinct style that owes a lot to his early metal and rock influences, such as Rage Against The Machine and Metallica.
Film Music
Shabir began his film career in Tamil cinema as a playback artist and songwriter. In A.R Murugados' Indian film Valiant Kutchi, he performed two songs. He also produced lyrics and recorded a rap based on a ragaa for one of the songs. Critics have lauded Shabir's interpretation of the song Ari Unnai. The film's audio was released in Chennai on February 13th. He wrote and performed for the Venkatesh film Babu Bangaram, a song for Drums Sivamani titled "Yaaro Yaar Aval" from the film Arima Nambi. He made his debut as a film composer with Sagaa. "Yaayum," the film's lead single, became a hit upon its debut, earning acclaim from critics and fans. He composed for Sankkaram, a project of the Naduvoca Kaanom and Idharkuthane Aasaipattai Balakumara and Neeya 2 makers. Sant Chakkaram's 2017 debut received a warm response on Dec. 29, 2017. Critics applauded his film's music.
Independent Music
Shabir was one of the first few people to ignite the international Tamil rebel movement. In 2005, his first album "Alaipayuhren" was released. On both local and international broadcasters, including MTV Asia, Shabir's independent music from his later albums, TraffiQ (Dejavu & Nagaravaytai), received regular airplay. He received a large following in South East Asia thanks to his channel V. and Channel V.
High Breed Media's "Swasam – Scents of Prose" was released on April 7, 2012, to enthusiastic reviews. The album includes a slew of musical styles as well as poetry recitations by well-known Singaporeans, including President S.R Nathan, Minister S Iswaran, former NMP Viswa Sadasivan, and many others.
