Sezairi Sezali, a Singaporean musician and singer-songwriter, is a singer-songwriter.
His rise to fame came via Singapore Idol Season 3, winning the competition's first full-length album Taking Second in 2010, which included his first single "Broken" which became 987FM's highest ranked Asian song. He released his first Malay single "Sayang" in 2014, which was well-received in Singapore, Malaysia, and Indonesia. Sezairi signed with Sony Music Entertainment in 2015, and he has since released a self-titled EP with the label. Since appearing in W!LD RICE's pantomime The Emperor's New Clothes and a local historical film 1965, the singer has also dabbled into acting.
Early life
Sezairi first discovered music at the age of 5 years old, inheriting genes from his father, who is an avid audiophile. "Isabella," a Malay rock song that was popularized by the band Search in the 90s, was his first album. He soon found himself sharing the same passion for music. He acquired the guitar to accompany his singing at the age of 14. He then went on to form Juxtapose, which featured him as frontman. Sezairi was first able to develop his craft as a guitarist as well as a writer with the band. It prepared him for what was to come in the Singapore Idol series, a nationwide televised singing competition that took place in 2009.
Personal life
On January 23, 2016, Sezairi solemnized his marriage to long-time girlfriend Syaza Qistina. The closed door party for 150 people was held at The Timbre Music Academy Hall in Old Parliament Lane, with some of them from the local entertainment scene, including Benjamin Kheng of The Sam Willows, rapper Sheikh Haikel and Kevin Lester.
A grand wedding dinner at the SAF Yacht Club in Changi in August 2016 was held to celebrate Sezairi's nuptials with his wife. Members of homegrown bands were on the wedding, including The Sam Willows, 53A, composer Jeremy Monteiro, and 987FM radio DJ Tabitha Nauser. Fakkah Fuzz, a comedian, was the evening's emcee, and singer-songwriter Charlie Lim performed a song for the couple.
Career
Sezairi appeared in the third season of Sezairi's national televised singing competition series, Singapore Idol. He won the season, capturing the hearts of many with his boy-next-door charm. He debuted his debut album "Take Two" in June 2010, receiving raves. On 987FM, one of Singapore's top pop radio stations, "Broken," the album's first single, was the highest-ranked Asian song of 2010.
He was signed to Sony Music Singapore in 2014 and has released his self-titled EP SEZAIRI, which features his first hit song "Fire To The Floor."
He released the EP Undertones, which included the evocative ballad 'It's You.' The album has surpassed ten million listeners online and has earned GOLD status since its inception. "It's You" was featured on Apple Music's "Best of 2018: Editors' Picks" global playlist, where it debuted on the third spot among the year's most popular and notable songs.
With his debut in the local historical film film 1965, Sezairi has branched out into acting, and he appeared in The Emperor's New Clothes as well.
