Serge Gnabry Career

Club career

In 2010, Gnabry's former club, VfB Stuttgart, agreed to a £100,000 contract with Premier League club Arsenal, but he had to wait until 2011, when he was 16 years old. Gnabry signed with Arsenal in the 2011–12 season. He was with the under-18s for the majority of the season, but was then promoted to the reserves following his outstanding performances. By the end of the season, Gnabry had played six games, scoring two goals.

Since being called up to Arsenal's first team for a pre-season friendly against FC Köln, Gnabry's season started off well for the 2012–13 season. He played 24 minutes after coming on at halftime and was replaced by Marouane Chamakh in the 69th minute. On Tuesday, Arsenal beat Coventry City 4-6 in the League Cup for Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain for his 72nd-minute replacement. He made his Premier League debut in the 1–0 loss at Carrow Road on October 20, 2012. After Jack Wilshere, Arsenal's second-youngest player in the league's history at 17 years and 98 days, he became Arsenal's second-youngest player in the league's history. He made his UEFA Champions League debut four days later, playing as a replacement in Arsenal's 2–0 home loss to Schalke 04.

In the quarter-finals of the NextGen Series, Gnabry scored the only goal in a 1–0 victory over CSKA Moscow U19s on March 25, 2013. In the semi-finals of the same competition, Arsenal lost 4–3 in extra time after scoring a late equalizer against Chelsea U19s to make it 3–3. Gnabry scored a goal against Liverpool U21s in an eventual 3–2 away loss in the following game on 8 April.

Gnabry was selected in Arsenal's first-team squad against Aston Villa in the first game of the 2013–14 season, but he started the game on the bench. After Theo Walcott was ruled out right before kick-off, he made his first appearance for the club against Stoke City in the Premier League on September 22, 2013. Arsenal beat Ryo Miyaichi in 73 minutes before being subbed out for Ryo Miyaichi. He scored his first professional goal in Arsenal's upcoming league match against Swansea City, guiding them to a 2–1 victory and leaving them at the top of the Premier League table. In an eventual 2–0 victory over Arsenal, he won a penalty at Crystal Palace on October 26th. Gnabry's off-season with the 2013 Golden Boy Award and a new five-year deal with Arsenal culminated in a nomination for the 2013 Golden Boy Award and a new Arsenal contract.

Following his breakout season, Gnabry missed the majority of the 2014–15 season due to a serious knee injury that kept him off the first team for more than a year. However, he captained and played 65 minutes for the Arsenal U21s as they defeated Newcastle United U21s 2–1 in February 2015.

Gnabry joined West Bromwich Albion on a season-long loan on August 7th to gain first-team experience. In a 3–2 loss to Chelsea on August 23, he made his debut as a replacement in a 3–2 loss. Since failing first-team action at West Brom, he was suspended from his loan in January. He played in the Premier League for two seasons and two in League Cup appearances.

Gnabry signed for Werder Bremen, Germany, for a reported transfer fee of £5 million on August 31, 2016. Arsène Wenger, Arsenal's manager, wanted to prolong Gnabry's deal at Arsenal before his departure, but the midfielder wanted to move elsewhere due to a lack of first-team opportunities.
