Life and career

Speer was born in San Diego, California. Speer was signed to HSI Productions at age 23, and for the music video of "Stars" by Switchfoot in 2006, he received the MVP Award for Directorial Debut of the Year.

He received his first MTV Video Music Awards Latin America in México in 2007 for his work with Belinda's "Bella Traicion" (Mexico). Ashley Tisdale produced a three-part video series in June 2007. "He Said She Said," "Not Like This," and "Finally" were among Ashley's "There's Something About Ashley's DVDs. From her album Guilty Pleasure, he supervised music videos for Tisdale in 2009. He had an on-and-off relationship with Tisdale from 2009 to 2012.

Speer produced and directed The Beat, an official selection of the 2003 Sundance Film Festival, in addition to directing, and remains heavily involved in independent films. Scott created "Duet," a LXD episode directed by Scott in 2010.

He directed Step Up Revolution (2012), his first film directing debut, in 2012.

Speer published Immortal City, a young adult novel about a world in which celebrity culture revolves around supernatural beings, particularly guardian angels.

Speer's Natural Born Angel was published in April 2013. He wrote the preceding book Immortal City (2012) and ended the trilogy with Battle Angel in 2014. Realm, the widely rated exorcism short film, was also made into a full length film in 2015.
