Early life
Pieterse was born in Johannesburg, South Africa, on February 17, 1996. She was born in Las Vegas, and then moved to Los Angeles in 2001, before heading to the United States. She aspired to a career in theater at an early age, when her parents were a professional acrobatic dance group that toured internationally. Pieterse was homeschooled and graduated at the age of 14.
Personal life
Pieterse became engaged to her long-term partner Hudson Sheaffer on December 22, 2015. They were married in Glaslough, Ireland, on May 27, 2018. Pieterse and Sheaffer announced on May 27, 2020, that they were expecting their first child. In November 2020, their son was born. The family lives in Nashville, Tennessee, as of 2022.

Pieterse began modeling and appearing in commercials at four years old. She appeared in an advertisement for Wenner Bread Products at five years old, and later appeared on a national billboard for hair salon franchise SuperCuts and modeled for Macy's Passport fashion show. Pieterse appeared in a variety of publications, including on the front pages of BELLO's "Young Hollywood" issue (December 2014), TeenProm (2015 issue), Seventeen (August 2016) (August 2019).
Pieterse got her start on television, co-starring Buffy on The WB's reimagining of Family Affair's at six years old in 2002.
