Early life
Sutherland was born in Los Angeles, California, to Kiefer Sutherland and his first wife, Camelia Kath. She is the granddaughter of Canadian actor Donald Sutherland and Shirley Douglas, as well as the great-granddaughter of Canadian politician Tommy Douglas. Sutherland studied at the Crossroads Drama Conservatory in Los Angeles as a youth before heading to New York University's Tisch School of the Arts. The Skin of a Grape, a one-woman play, was published and performed in her final semester.
