Santiago Cabrera (Spanish pronunciation: [santja]; born 5 May 1978) is a Chilean-British actor who has worked mainly in the United Kingdom and the United States. Cabrera is best known for his appearances in the BBC drama series Heroes, Lancelot in the BBC drama series Merlin, and Aramis in the BBC series The Musketeers. He was also the lead in the TV show Salvation as Darius Tanz, and he appeared in Star Trek: Picard as Captain Cristóbal "Cris" Rios.

Early life

Cabrera was born in Caracas, Venezuela, where his father, a Chilean diplomat, was stationed at the time. He is the third child of three children. Santiago grew up in England but also in Romania, Toronto, and Madrid, as a result of his father's work. When he was fifteen years old, his family returned to Chile. He was captain of his high school football team and only started acting after his teachers encouraged him. Cabrera played in productions at The Drama Centre in London from 2000 to 2003, including Cabrera's The Unknown People, A Month in the Country, Napoli Milionaria, Britannicus, The Strangeness of Others, Three Birds Alighting on a Field, and Don Juan's title character.

Personal life

Anna Marcea, a theatre producer, is married to Cabrera. In April 2016, their son was born.

Career

He made his television debut in Battlefield Britain, with minor roles in Judge John Deed, Spooks, and As If. Montano in Shakespeare's Othello, his first appearance after graduating from drama school, appeared at the Northampton Theatre Royal. He appeared in Love and Other Disasters in 2006 as the Argentinian Paolo Sarmiento, as well as Brittany Murphy and Matthew Rhys.

As Octavius, he appeared on American television first in Empire. In the NBC series Heroes, Isaac Mendez appeared; after the character's story ended, he narrated several episodes of the BBC's spin-off documentary series Heroes Unmasked. Lancelot appeared in The Musketeers, alongside BBC drama series Merlin and Aramis.

Cabrera is an English, French, French, and Italian writer, in addition to his fluency in Spanish, English, French, and Italian, his son is an Olympic swimmer. Universidad Católica de Santiago is his favorite team, but he is still a fan of London club Queens Park Rangers F.C., for which he served as a mascot as an infant. Although Santiago is his hometown, he divides his time between London and Los Angeles.

In the unmade George Miller film Justice League: Mortal, Cabrera was cast as Aquaman.

Cabrera played in Soccer Aid, a British charity football match in aid of UNICEF, on September 7, 2008. He returned to this journey in 2014, playing for the Rest of the World for the first time. In November 2008, he competed for the Hollywood United team in a special charity match to help people affected by Hurricane Ike's devastation.

Cabrera was cast in Star Trek: Picard, starring Patrick Stewart, which premiered in April 2019. In the limited series, he appeared as the supporting role of Captain Cristobal Rios. Cabrera appeared in Disney's Godmothered in 2020.

Cabrera revealed on September 9, 2021, that he would return to Star Trek: Picard for the second season of the series, as shown by a trailer on his Instagram. Cabrera posted the last episode of Picard's second season on Instagram on May 5, 2022. It was his last appearance on the show.
