Santhanam a.k.a.a.a. Santa is an Indian film actor and director whose principal works are in Tamil cinema.

He came to prominence as a comedian on television, beginning his career as a comedian in STAR Vijay's Lollu Sabha, enacting the lead role in a spoofs of Tamil films.

He was given the opportunity by actor Silambarasan to appear in a supporting role in Manmadhan (2004) and then went on to appear in a number of films, most notably winning excellent reviews for his roles in Sachien (2005) and Polladhavan (2007).

He appeared in a one-off leading role in Shankar's production Arai En 305-il Kadavul (2008) and later became a staple feature in successful Tamil films during the period, with his industry experience assisting stuck films in finding distributors.

He has also appeared in A L Vijay, Siva, and Sundar C's films as well as films starring Silambarasan, Arya, and Udhayanidhi Stalin. His consistently high success and box office success in the early 2010s earned him the film industry to recognize him as the "Comedy Superstar."

He formed Handmade Films in 2012 and made his first film, Kanna Laddu Thinna Aasa (2013), which went on to become a commercially successful venture.

Meanwhile, in 2014, he appeared in the leading role in the action comedy Vallavanuku Pullum Aayudham, receiving critical and commercial accolades.

Personal life

Santhanam grew up in Pozhichilur, near Pallavaram in Chennai. In 2004, Santhanam married Usha. Their parents' marriage was arranged. They have three children. He's very close to Silambarasan, who gave him his first film debut, and he considers him his godfather.

Career

Santhanam plays either the male protagonist's companion or antagonist in a comedy track separate from the main plot, which is a vital piece of the plot. Santhanam, one of three main characters alongside his close friend and dermatologist Sethu and Power Star Srinivasan, was well-received by critics, who wrote "there is a serious actor inside Santhanam, who seems to be waiting for the right time or role to break out of the comedy and sidekick roles he is confined to now." He appeared in Kannan's comedy film Settai alongside Arya and Premgi Amaren, who also served as an assistant director, and later played a prominent role as a love tutor, although he also played a guru in Sundar C's Theeya Velai Seiyanum Kumaru. He continued to appear in well-received films, including Raja Rani and Vanakkam Chennai, as well as his work in Endrendrum Punnagay with Jiiva and Vinay, "he is a revelation and brings some life and gives some hearty laughs." In the course of his fourth collaboration with Rajesh in All in All Azhagu Raja, which was a surprise failure, a setback was born, and a reviewer wrote, "although he does have his moments, the joke seems to be forced, some of the scenes are greatly exaggerated, and his portrayal of Kareena Chopra is a disaster."
