Sandy Career

Career

For the first time in 1989 in Brazil, Sandy & Junior appeared as a pair. They released Aniversário do Tatu, their first album, in 1990, which has sold 300,000 copies in Brazil. They first gained notoriety as the children of Xororó, the famous sertanejo pair Chit & Xoró. Sandy & Junior started performing children's songs and sertanejo/country-influenced tracks (their first single, "Maria Chiquinha," is a classic sertanejo track). They converted their style to pop-influenced songs, mainly ballads and upbeat songs, as they hit adolescence. They became a pop sensation in Brazil with the introduction of the albums Era Uma Vez - Ao Vivo (1999), Quatro Estaçes (1999), and Sandy & Junior (2002), which sold more than 9 million copies together, each receiving multiple diamond certificates. Their success was compared to Beatlemania in a journal called Época.

They released Internacional (called Sandy & Junior in Europe and Latin America) in 2002, aiming for a worldwide career. They went to countries like Germany, Portugal, Italy, Mexico, Chile, Puerto Rico, and Spain to promote the album. The album was lauded by Billboard magazine, who said, "Allthing is pleasant, beautifully done, and completely mainstream." [...] Sandy's dulce, bell-like voice, on the other hand, reveals a surprising range and tenacity, despite its dulcimer quality." The album's sales reached 1.2 million copies worldwide, and was preceded by its lead song "Love Never Fails" (also available in Portuguese, Spanish, and French). In the category Best Contemporary Pop Album, Sandy & Junior (2006) was nominated for a Latin Grammy. Sandy & Junior announced on April 17, 2007, that an MTV Unplugged album would be their last work together, as well as a press conference, announcing that their time as a pair will come to an end. In Brazil, their MTV Unplugged (in Portuguese Acrescence MTV) was awarded triple platinum.

The Pro-Masil awarded Manuscrito platinum status (PMB). Manuscrito was released in Portugal on September 20, 2010. Nerina Pallot, a British singer-songwriter, appears on one of the album's tracks ("Dias Irma"). In 2010, the lead single, "Pés Cansados," became one of Brazil's most popular radio stations. "Quem Eu Sou" was released as a second single, but it wasn't able to reach "Pés Cansados" fame. "Pés Cansados" was later nominated for two MTV Video Music Brazil (Best Pop Video and Hit of The Year) in Brazil. Sandy was nominated for two awards at the 2011 Multishow Brazilian Music Award.
