In 1973, at the age of 24, she made her acting debut as a waitress in the 1973 British film The Final Programme.

She is perhaps most well-known for her role of Trillian in the TV series of Douglas Adams's The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy.

She has appeared in films including Superman III, The Lonely Day, Supergirl, StagKnight, Ready Player One and The Batman.
