Victoria Louise Therese Eggar (born 5 March 1939) is an English-American film, stage, television, and voice actress.
She rose to prominence in William Wyler's dramatic The Collector (1965), earning her a Golden Globe Award and an Academy Award nomination for Best Actress after starting her career in Shakespearean theater. Emma Fairfax appeared in Doctor Dolittle (1967) and the American drama The Molly Maguires (1970).

Early life
Samantha Eggar was born in Hampstead, London, to Ralph Alfred James Eggar (a British Army brigadier) and Muriel Olga Palache-Bouma, both of Dutch and Portuguese descent. The initials of each of her parents' first children were derived from the initials of the two triplets of given names. During World War II, her family immigrated to rural Bledlow, Buckinghamshire, where she spent her childhood.
Eggar was born in Woking, Surrey, as a Roman Catholic and educated. Eggar reflected on her time at convent school, saying, "The nuns didn't have much success with me." Career
Eggar began performing in a variety of Shakespearean companies, most notably in the 1962 revival of A Midsummer Night's Dream directed by Tony Richardson. She appeared on stage in Douglas Seale's Landscape with Figures, where she was discovered by a talent scout, and from there was cast in the biographical film Dr. Crippen (1962) opposite Donald Pleasence.
