Sam Anderson (born May 13, 1945) is an American actor.

Sam Gorpley on Perfect Strangers, as dentist Bernard Nadler on Lost, and as Holland Manners on Angel are two of his films.

Early life

Anderson was born in Wahon, North Dakota. At the University of North Dakota and the University of Wisconsin, he earned a Master of Arts degree in American literature and creative writing. He taught drama at Antelope Valley College in Lancaster, California, during the 1970s.

Career

Anderson is best known for his appearances on Perfect Strangers, as Bernard Manners on Angel and as Bernard on Lost. He was most prominent in Forrest Gump as the school principal. He is also known as the assistant manager of the Hotel Royale in Star Trek: The Next Generation's "The Royale" and as Mike Seaver's adversary Principal DeWitt on Growing Pains. In addition,, he was one of the recurring stars on numerous episodes of WKRP in Cincinnati, including an immigration officer in the episode "The Americanization of Ivan." Walter Carmichael, a middle school teacher whose classroom has been turned into a criminal scene in which one of his students has been kidnapped, has guest-starred in Season 8 of NCIS as Walter Carmichael, a child whose classroom has been turned into a prison for one of his students.
