Sally Anne Struthers (born July 28, 1947) is an American actress, spokeswoman, and protester.

Gloria Stivic, Archie and Edith Bunker's daughter, was on All in the Family, where she received two Emmy awards and Babette on Gilmore Girls.

Charlene Sinclair was the spokesperson on ABC sitcom Dinosaurs and Rebecca Cunningham's Disney animated film TaleSpin.

Early life

Sally Anne Struthers was born in Portland, Oregon, on July 28, 1947, she was the second of two children born to Margaret Caroline (née Jernes) and Robert Alden Struthers, a surgeon. Sue is Sue's older sister. Her maternal grandparents, who were Norwegian immigrants, were in charge of her care.

When Struthers was nine years old, her father died before she was raised by her single mother in northeast Portland's Concordia neighborhood. During Struthers' childhood, her mother, who helped herself and her two daughters work in Bonneville, suffered with severe depression.

Personal life

In Los Angeles, Struthers married psychiatrist William C. Rader on December 18, 1977. The couple divorced on January 19, 1983, after having one child and daughter Samantha.

In Five Easy Pieces (1970) Struthers was opposite Jack Nicholson. In The Getaway (1972), she appeared as a devoted wife of a veterinarian. On the 1970s sitcom All in the Family, Struthers debuted as Gloria Stivic. Producer Norman Lear discovered the actress on The Smothers Brothers Comedy Hour.

In a WPT Radio interview with Doug Hoerth in 2003, Struthers predicted that Reiner's then-fiancée and later wife, Penny Marshall, would play Gloria as Marshall more like Jean Stapleton, who played Edith Bunker. Candice Azzara had appeared in a pilot episode but it was soon cut off. After a rough start, the series became a hit in the summer reruns, giving tens of millions of viewers the opportunity to see "Gloria" campaigning her liberal viewpoints on negative stereotypes and inequality. Struthers received two Emmy Awards (in 1972 and 1979) for her appearance on the program. She appeared on a number of animated series, including The Pebbles and Bamm-Bamm Show (as a teen Pebbles Flintstone), TaleSpin (as Rebecca Cunningham), and was one of the voice actors on ABC's Dinosaurs produced by Walt Disney and Henson Productions (as Charlene Sinclair).

In the national tour of Annie at the Fabulous Fox Theatre in Atlanta, Georgia, and in the late 1990s, the performers appeared onstage. She has been a fan at the Ogunquit Playhouse in Ogunquit, Maine, since the early 2000s.
