Muhammad Safawi bin Rasid (born 5 March 1997) is a Malaysian footballer who plays for Malaysia's Johor Darul Ta'zim and the Malaysia national team.
He mostly plays as a winger, but he's also able to play as a striker.
Early life
Safawi lives in Kampung Bukit Chatak, Dungun, Terengganu, and studied at Sekolah Menengay Manengengah, Dungun, Terengganu, 2010 before heading to Sekolah Sukan Bukit Nenas, Setiu, Terengganu, to develop his football skills until 2014. Since being a secondary school student for the first year, he had played football for his school team.
Safawi has 13 children, the bulk of whom are involved with sports such as sepak takraw, football, and hockey. He is the ninth sibling and the Dungun community's pride.
Club career
By 2011, T-Team's 2011 head coach, Jibang Marzuki, had established a football academy in six Terengganu cities, Dungun, Besut, Kemaman, Setiu, and Kuala Terengganu. All the football academy players must be under 18 years old, and Jibang Marzuki had to hold a game for each team every week to ensure the highest result before going to T-Team Football Club pre-selection at the end of the year.
Safawi Rasid, who was only 15 years old when he joined the Dungun T-Team Football Club Academy, was always first-eleven for his team on every game. He used to play as a central midfielder and adored scoring long-range shots with his left foot. As Safawi's future seemed promising, his boss, who was at the time, recalls going to his house and directing him to attend training. Safawi has been representing Terengganu's football team each year for the MSSM tournament since then.
When he was 16 years old, he travelled to Sekolah Sukan Bukit Nenas to develop his football skills, 66 kilometers away from home. Rahmad Darmawan, a T-Team coach, selected him to train with the first team due to his outstanding results in the Sports School League. Safawi was immediately impressed by Rahmad, and soon became a vital part of the first team.
Safawi had agreed to join champions Johor Darul Ta'zim in December 2016. He was given the number 29.
Safawi's side lost 0–3 on February 7th in the 2017 AFC Champions League qualifying play-offs against Gamba Osaka. Safawi defeated Felda United 3–1 on Saturday in his league debut after coming off the bench.
In a 3–1 victory over Sarawak on July 15, he scored his first goal in the Malaysian Super League for his new club. Safawi collected his first Malaysia Cup medal and 2017 Malaysia Cup crown, helping Johor Darul Ta'zim win their fourth consecutive league title and first Malaysia Cup trophy in history.
Safawi put on an impressive display in a 3–0 win over Perpetuja Jakarta, scoring a stunning goal along the way. In the third round of the 2018 Malaysia FA Cup against UiTM, he scored his first hat-trick in a 2–3 victory on March 17th. He scored his first goal of the Malaysian Super League season against PKNS on April 14th.

Safawi joined Portimonense S.C. from Johor Darul Ta'zim on a season-long loan. On October 16, 2020, he made his U-23 debut, resulting in a 3-1 loss against Sporting CP U-23. The loan was due to a lack of playing time by the coach, resulting in Safawi's departure without making their first team appearances.
After returning from a loan spell in Portugal, he scored his goal for the club in Piala Sumbangsih. However, Safawi suffered his knee in the upcoming match, putting him out for three months.
International career
In the 2016 Nations Cup, Safawi made his Malaysia Under-22 debut. Safawi was called up to the Malaysian national team for the match against Indonesia in August 2016. As Malaysia lost 0–3, he made his debut for the senior team in the match as a starter. He was then called up again for the 2016 Causeway Challenge against Singapore, which ended 0–0.
Safawi was dropped from the final 23-man squad before the 2016 AFF Suzuki Cup began. Despite being in the squad despite having a rough season with Johor Darul Ta'zim, Malaysian football fans had sluggish dismissal of Safawi from Ong Kim Swee.
Safawi was selected by Ong Kim Swee for the 20-man team during the 2017 Southeast Asian games.
