Sabrina Setlur Life

Sabrina Setlur (born January 10, 1974), also known as Schwester S., is a German rapper, singer, and occasional actor.

Her debut was in 1995 under the guidance of 3p Records CEO and mentor Moses Pelham, the creator of her breakthrough single "Ja Klar." Setlur is the only artist to have ever been recognized and highest-selling female rap act" in Germany after the demise of her pseudonym and a number-one single, "Du Liebst Mich Nicht" in 1997. Her most recent album was released in 2007.

Early life

Setlur is the elder of two sisters born to Krishnan Setlur, a Kannadiga banker, and his sister Theresa, a Malayali nurse, in Frankfurt, Hesse. Yvonne, her four-year-old sister, was primarily raised in Bad Soden am Taunus, where Setlur became acquainted with future Rödelheim hartreim Projekt members Thomas Hofmann and Moses Pelham in her high school years. After a spontaneous appearance of Dr. Dre's "Nuthin" But a "G" Thang" in 1993, Hofmann and Pelham asked her to contribute a verse to the early Rödelheim Hartreim Projekt's "Wenn Es Nicht Hart Ist." Setlur reportedly hesitated because she had never rapped before, but soon accepted their invitation into the recording studio. Pelham's talent made her an annual deal with Pelham Power Productions, and as a result, Setlur left investigating company administration and instead signed a deal with 3p Records.

Sabrina Setlur Career

Music career

Setlur released the Moses Pelham-produced double A single "Hier geht die Schwester/Pass On" under the pseudonym Schwester S. Her debut single, "Ja klar" from her debut album S is soweit (ranking #11), was released in 1995. "Best Female Artist" was a prize in 1996. In addition, she began her own hip hop show on the radio station hr3.

Setlur's second album Die Neue S-Klasse under her birth name in February of the same year was released shortly after the 3p's sudden major label change in 1997. The album debuted at #10 on the charts, and Setlur's first and only #1 single "Du Liebst Mich Nicht" earned her her another ECHO and Comet award for "Best Female Artist" in 1998, as well as a gold record for more than 300.000 units sold. In the meantime, Setlur was seen on Faithless' "Bring My Family Back" and then-newcomer Xavier Naidoo's "Freisein."

Setlur's third album Aus der Sicht undiden verben von... outperforms the success of its predecessors when it reached #3 on the German charts chart in 1999. Despite the fact that its singles weren't able to replicate previous successes, Setlur's sales gave her her third ECHO award for "Best Female Artist" in 2000. When paparazzi revealed her affair with former tennis star Boris Becker a few months later, Sabrina made the news. The couple were dissociated shortly after, but their name was still popular in magazines and newspapers, but the pair did not resurfaced soon after, owing to competing theories about anorexia Setlur's identity. In an interview with online newspaper Spiegel Online, Setlur said, "I was immediately in the paper, not because of my work, but because we were together." "They started writing stuff about me, which has nothing to do with my job."

Setlur channeled a large portion of her media-discussed experiences into the production of her fourth studio album Sabs. The CD, which was released in November 2003, received mixed feedback from most professional music reviewers, with Laut calling it "a chavy and antiquated [but] good rap album" and CDStarts referring to it as a "insignificant [but] comeback" and others calling it a "insignificant [but] practiced comeback." The album was released as a judge on Setlur's third installment of the German reality television series Popstars (which also produced the male quartet Overground and the girl group Preluders), and it was marketed as a judge on the third installment of the German reality television series Popstars titled "Liebe," a collaboration with Glashaus and labelmate Franziska. In Istanbul, Setlur was competing for the Eurovision Song Contest 2004. Setlur's second single, which has been deemed a favorite by the media, was eventually defeated by singer Max Mutzke's "Can't Wait Until Tonight" after multiple weeks of promotional appearances.

In early 2005, she released a best of compilation, titled 10 Jahre Sabrina Setlur. The compilation album includes all of her singles (by then fifteen) as well as the album's "Ich bin raus" (from Aus der Sicht underne beziehungs undaunted) and "Ohne Worte," but no new information was included. To advertise the album, the song "Mein Herz," originally published on Sabs, was used as a single.

Setlur's fifth studio album Rot was released on August 24, 2007, marking the start of yet another musical hiatus.
