Ryan Douglas Hurst (born June 19, 1976) is an American actor best known for his role as Gerry Bertier in Disney's Remember the Titans (2000), Sgt.

Ernie Savage in We Were Soldiers 2002, Tom Clarke in Taken (2002), Opie Winston in FX drama series Sons of Anarchy (2008–2017), Chick in Bates Motel (2015–2017), Beta in The Walking Dead (2019–present), and Hector Bonner in Bosch (2019–2017).

Early life

Hurst was born in Santa Monica, California, the son of Candace Kaniecki, an acting coach, and Rick Hurst, an actor best known for playing "Deputy Cletus Hogg" in the Dukes of Hazard. He attended Santa Monica High School. He converted to Sikhism, and Gobind Seva Singh, his Sikh name, is his Sikh name.

Personal life

Hurst and Molly Cookson met in 1994 and married in May 2005. They formed Fast Shoes, a shoe manufacturing business that was founded together. Hurst purchased a 3,400 square-foot house in Woodland Hills, California, for $1.71 million in April 2013.

Career

Hurst got off to a good start in show business with a recurring appearance in the NBC teenager situation comedy series Saved by the Whistle, The New Class. Hurst portrayed Michaelson, a paratrooper who, despite a temporary hearing loss, is able to contact Captain John H. Miller (Tom Hanks) the exact location of Private Ryan in the 1998 epic war film Saving Private Ryan. Hurst continued this tradition in 2000 with a participation in Rules of Engagement and the central supporting role of Gerry Bertier in Remember the Titans. In addition,, he appeared in the war film We Were Soldiers (2002) as Sgt. Ernie Savage, played football player Lump Hudson in the black comedy thriller film The Ladykillers (2004), and starred in the TNT police drama series Wanted (2005). Hurst rose to fame for portraying Allison DuBois' half-brother, Michael Benoit, in NBC's supernatural procedural drama series Medium, from 2005 to 2007.

Hurst's first break came as he was portrayed as Opie Winston in the FX crime drama series Sons of Anarchy. He was promoted to main cast member for the following season and went on to become a fan favorite as a recurring cast member in the first season. Despite his wife's objections and his knowledge of the risks, his character, who was recently released from a five-year prison term and "living right" but not making ends meet, goes back to SAMCRO to care for his family. Hurst's portrayal of Opie earned him the Satellite Award for Best Supporting Actor – Series, Miniseries, or Television Film in 2011. In 2011, Hurst's Jedidiah was also present in Rango's animated box office. He also appears in the WGN America series Outsiders. It was announced in August 2018 that he would appear as Beta on AMC's The Walking Dead. "Guardians" was his debut on March 3, 2019.
