Ruggero Deodato Life

Ruggero Deodato (born 7 May 1939) is an Italian film producer who has worked as both a screenwriter and an actor in both his own and other projects. He has shot in a variety of genres, including peplum, comedy, drama, poliziottesco, and science fiction, but he is best known for directing violent and gory horror films with strong elements of realism. He is best known for his 1980 film Cannibal Holocaust, which was considered one of the most controversial and brutal in cinema history, and has been seized, barred, or heavily restricted in several countries.

It has also been used as a precursor to found footage films such as The Blair Witch Project and The Last Broadcast.

Deodato's reputation as a "extreme" film director boosted him, earning him the title "Monsieur Cannibal" in France.

Personal life

Silvia Dionisio, a 1971-1979 actress, was married to Deodato. He has a son from the marriage. Micaela Rocco, his current partner, is a fan of his character.

In 2019, Deodato Holocaust, a film about his life and work, was honored. It was directed by Brazilian filmmaker Felipe M. Guerra and unveiled in May of that year at the Fantaspoa Film Festival in Brazil, Brazil, with Ruggero in attendance. Guerra's book was based on a series of interviews, edited with images from Deodato's films and personal photos. Deodato Holocaust [moved] was broadcast on Blu-Ray in Sweden and Germany in 2021.
