Rokhawam-Shahidi (born 12 March 1983) is an English actress.

In the ITV soap Emmerdale, she is best known for playing Leyla Harding.

Personal life

Ghawam-Shahidi was born to an Iranian father and an English mother and grew up in Whalley Range in Manchester. She went vegan at the age of eight and a vegetarian at 21. She is married to Arsher Ali. They have one child together in 2018.

Shahidi has established a Yoga Lunch Club in Hockley, Greater Nottingham's Creative Quarter, where she is also based. She also has a YouTube channel to post yoga videos.

Shahidi started her work with Contact Young Actors Company in 2004 and went on to work with Peskar Productions as a drama workshop leader in Oldham and Bolton. East is East, Janus (for West Yorkshire Playhouse), Christie Malry's Own Double Entry at the Palace Theatre, Manchester, Freshly Scratched (for the Battersea Arts Centre) and Rafta, Rafta... at the National Theatre are among her theatre credits.

E.g., she has appeared in radio plays as well. Lost Lovers, Maps by Nadeem Aslam. She appeared in the Manchester Library Theatre Company's productions of Arabian Nights in Salford, near Manchester, from November 2012 to January 2013.

Shahidi has appeared on British television in shows such as Sinchronicity and Emmerdale, as well as Leyla Harding from 2008 to 2011. On December 25, 2013, Shahidi returned to Emmerdale.
