Ross O'Donovan Career

Career

O'Donovan began his career by delivering animated shorts to Newgrounds under the name "RubberNinja." Later this year, he would create a YouTube channel and begin posting content on it. Gamer Tonight, the ABC2 video game-based program Good Game, was his best-known project. The show's host, Arin Hanson, was a frequent collaborator, and it would interview various kinds of gamers.

He also created Gameoverse, which featured Hanson in every speaking role. However, Gameoverse has since been on hiatus, although O'Donovan has confirmed that the game will return.

O'Donovan released a video in August 2014 expressing his dissatisfaction with animation videos on YouTube. He was adamant to the changes that had been made to YouTube's algorithms, and he said that the website was now supporting live-action videos over animated videos due to the algorithm's emphasis on retention time and upload frequencies, which would hinder animation channels.

In 2013, after Jon Jafari's departure from YouTube's Let's Play game Game Grumps, co-host Arin Hanson premiered a second show on the Game Grumps website. The show Steam Train was originally planned by O'Donovan, and Ninja Sex Party vocalist Dan Avidan joined O'Donovan in O'Donovan, where both will play PC games (the title refers to online retailer Steam). O'Donovan will appear alongside other Game Grumps members and other content creators in subsequent episodes of the series.

On the Game Grumps channel, O'Donovan introduced Guild Grumps, a 5-episode miniseries. In a 5-day race to progress from Level 90 to 100 in the Warlords of Draenor expansion of World of Warcraft, O'Donovan mentored 4 members of the Game Grumps crew.

O'Donovan's game Grumps left in 2020, while still maintaining a privileged friendship with Hanson and Avidan to prioritize making his own content. He has appeared on several occasions as a visitor and made a brief appearance in a video commemorating the series's tenth anniversary. In 2022, RubberRoss, his new YouTube channel, attracted over 1 million viewers.

Burger King and the ad agency Ogilvy's controversial advertising campaign in August 2020 was aimed at O'Donovan. The companies also included a Twitch feature that encourages viewers to give small amounts of money in order to air unsolicited ads. Clips from these streams were later used in a video commercial. O'Donovan responded to his campaign with a series of tweets, referring to the activity as "scummy as hell." When writing about the issue, BBC, Kotaku, and PC Gamer used the tweets, as well as additional statements from O'Donovan.
