Roger Binny Career

Career

Roger Binny was an all-rounder. He is best known for his bowling performance in the 1983 Cricket World Cup, in which he was the highest wicket taker (18 wickets), and the 1985 World Series Cricket Championship in Australia, where he repeated this feat (17 wickets).

Binny made Test cricket debut at M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bangalore against Pakistan in the first test of the 1979 series. On debut, he did well and scored 46 runs against the Imran Khan and Sarfraz Nawaz bowling team. He was a swing baller and one of the best fielders in the team.

His Test career was not particularly strong, but he and fellow Pace bowler Karsan Ghavri were instrumental in bringing the shine off the new ball before India's famous bowlers took over. Binny and Ghavri, as well as wicketkeeper Syed Kirmani, were also credited with saving many test matches for India. Binny could be counted to keep the batting down if the top batting order fell, or bring the game to a draw. Binny, on the other hand, came into his own in the World Cup. The wickets were suited for his medium-speed, collaborated with Madan Lal, and led by Kapil Dev, who helped India win their first World Cup title.

Binny was the president of the Karnataka State Cricket Association (KSCA). During the 2011 ICC cricket world cup, he served as a pundit for NewsX. Binny was appointed as one of the five members of the Board of Control for Cricket in India on September 27. On October 18, 2022, he was elected president of BCCI. No one opposed him in the general election. He succeeded Sourav Ganguly.
