Robin Ellis Life

Anthony Robin Ellis (born 8 January 1942) is an English actor best known for his role as Captain Ross Poldark in 29 episodes of the BBC classic series Poldark, adapted from a series of books by the late British author Winston Graham.

He also appeared in Fawlty Towers, Cluedo, The Good Soldier (an adaptation of the Ford Madox Ford novel), Elizabeth R (playing Essex), The Moonstone, Bel Ami, Sense and Sensibility (which also featured Clive Francis), The Casebook of Sherlock Holmes, She Loves Me (in which he sings) and Blue Remembered Hills (written by Dennis Potter).

In 2015-17 and 2019 he appeared in Poldark as Reverend Halse.

Personal life

Ellis lives with his wife Meredith in southwest France. His younger brothers are the actor Jack Ellis and the director Peter Ellis, who died in 2006.

Life and career

Ellis was born in Ipswich, Suffolk, England. He studied at the independent Highgate School in north London, as well as at Fitzwilliam College, Cambridge, where he read history and appeared in more than 20 plays. Capt. Jack Absolute was his first West End appearance in Sheridan's The Rivals at the Haymarket Theatre. He then proceeded to appear in The Real Inspector Hound at the Criterion Theatre and Widowers' Houses at the Royal Court. He was a member of the pioneering Actors' Company, founded in 1972 by Ian McKellen and Edward Petherbridge, and operated and operated democratically by the actors themselves. He appeared in 'Tis Pity She's a Whore, Ruling the Roost, The Way of the World, The Wood Demon, The Bacchae, King Lear, and Knots (based on R. D. Laing's book).

Ellis made his first big screen appearance in a popular television show in 1975. Ross Poldark, the heart throb, appeared in Poldark's BBC 1 series.

He appeared in Arthur's film Ames in 1969. Arthur! Ellis co-starred with Lee Remick in the Merchant Ivory film The Europeans (1979), based on Henry James' book The Europeans (1979), in which the role of John Acton appears. Ellis appeared in the CBS mini-series The Curse of King Tut's Tomb (playing Howard Carter, the Englishman who discovered King Tut's tomb), as well as a BBC adaptation of Ruth Rendell's psychological thriller.

Ellis had also worked in theatre, including a stint with the Royal Shakespeare Company. He appeared in a musical interpretation of The Comedy of Errors playing Pinch; in King Lear's appearance as Edmund; Troilus and Cressida performing Achilles; and Much Ado About Nothing playing Don Pedro. A.R. : His last West End theatre appearance was with Zo Wanamaker in Sylvia. Gurney appeared at the Apollo Theatre in 1996.

He is a well-known voiceover artist and co-owned Voices in London for many years, and he co-owned Voices in London. He has written down documentaries ranging from Fall of the Wall, The Second Russian Revolution, The Death of Yugoslavia, and the End of Empire.

Making Poldark by Robert Gordon was the author of a book titled Making Poldark (originally published by Bossiney Books, ISBN 0-906456-00-2). In 2012, Poldark was expanded and refined, and Palo Alto Publishing republished it (ISBN 9780983939818). In June 2015, Audible released an audio version of his memoir.

Reverend Halse played a recurring role in the BBC/Mammoth version of Poldark as Reverend Halse.

In 2021, he appeared in Hamlet, an online performance based on Gorilla Repertory Theater in New York, which was supposed to open in fall 2021.
