Robert Carradine Career

Acting career

Carradine made his film debut in 1972 in The Cowboys, alongside John Wayne. He was also featured in a short-lived television series of the same name that was based on the film. In the Martin Scorsese film Mean Streets shooting to death played by his brother, David, he made a camedic appearance as a killer.

He worked with David on various independent projects, including a biker film called You and Me (1975) and an unreleased musical called A Country Mile. He also did film work for David's cult classic Vietnam War-inspired Americana, which wasn't out until 1983.

When Carradine played Jim Cantrell in Paul Bartel's Cannonball in 1976, he had the opportunity to demonstrate what he considered to be his "first dream" car racing. Robert's character leads the cross country road race, defeating Coy "Cannonball" Buckman, who was played by his brother, David. In 1977, Robert became a snack for the vengeful killer whale in the Jaws imitating film Orca.

In another film about young Californians heading up to Washington and Alaska to seek their fortunes, Robert performed alongside other Hollywood offspring in the 1977 film "Joyride," where he appeared with Desi Arnaz, Jr., Melanie Griffith, and Anne Lockhart (daughter of June Lockhart).

Robert landed a demanding role in Hal Ashby's award-winning Vietnam War drama, Coming Home, starring Jane Fonda and Jon Voight, in 1978. Some believe he might be the finest actor in his family due to his appearance.

Robert was instrumental in arranging David and Keith's appearance in one of the most unusual casting choices in film history. The Carradines appeared in The Long Riders (1980) alongside three other groups of acting brothers: Stacy and James Keach, Dennis Quaid, and Nicholas Guest.

Carradine appeared alongside Mark Hamill and Lee Marvin in Samuel Fuller's The Big Red One, retracing Fuller's World War II experience. The film was narrated by his character, who was based on Fuller himself.

In 1983, he and Cherie Curie appeared in the science fiction film Wavelength, in which he played a washed up rock star who aids extraterrestrials in escaping from a military base. He created one named after his daughter, Everly, in the film. He appeared in the music video for The Motels' hit song "Suddenly Last Summer" as lead singer Martha Davis' love interest.

Lewis Skolnick, Carradine's greatest film success to date appeared in Revenge of the Nerds in 1984. Carradine spent time at The University of Arizona, where the movie was shot, and she was preparing for the commotion. "No fraternity selected him," Carradine told Carradine that he was indeed correct for the portion of the nerd that no one wanted to claim as their own." Carradine reimagined Skolnick's role in three sequels, taking over as executive producer in the latter two sequels. During an interview at the Niagara Falls Comic Con in 2018, Carradine joined Andrew Cassese and Don Gibb. He appeared in Max Keeble's Big Move in 2001 as Donald Keeble. He co-starred with Caroline Rhea in Mom's Got a Date with a Vampire in 2000. In 2003, Sam McGuire reprised his role as Sam McGuire in The Lizzie McGuire Film.

On the classic Western series Bonanza, Carradine's first television appearance was in 1971. Sunny Jim, Serenity Johnson's mute companion, appeared on his brother David's Kung Fu as a mute companion of Serenity Johnson, played by his father John Carradine in an episode titled Dark Angel (1972). In 1979, he was joined by Melissa Sue Anderson in Survival of Dana. Carradine played Robert Cohn in Ernest Hemingway's The Sun Also Rises in 1984. He appeared in the 1987 HBO mini-series Conspiracy: The Trial of the Chicago 8. He appeared in Law & Order: Criminal Intent titled Gone (2005, Episode 11, Episode 11), portraying a character based very closely on Bobby Fischer. In 2007, he appeared in Jane Doe, a television series directed by James A. Contner.

Sam McGuire appeared on Lizzie McGuire from 2001 to 2004. Hilary Duff played Lizzie on the program, and it was extremely popular among girls. The show's realistic treatment of a 13-year-old girl's emotional difficulties appealed to parents.

Anthony Edwards co-starred in the ER episode "Sleepless in Chicago."

On TBS, a reality TV show in which a group of nerds compete to determine which one is the nerdiest, Curtis Armstrong and former Revenge of the Nerds co-star Curtis Armstrong hosted King of the Nerds, a reality TV series in which a group of nerds battle to find out which one is the nerdiest.

Terrell Owens, a wide receiver for the Hall of Fame, appeared on a fourth season episode of Celebrity Wife Swap with Hall of Fame wide receiver Terrell Owens in 2015.

'Why we're striking?' he captioned the check, which was issued to him in August 2019, and it appears to be for his job on Lizzie Maguire.

Robert Carradine appears to be much different 20 years after appearing on Lizzie McGuire's show. Hilary Duff appeared as the lead character in the cult Disney Channel comedy starring Carradine, who played Lizzie's father, Sam McGuire. In a recent video for the podcast Living Lizzie: A Very McGuire Podcast, the 69-year-old actor appeared unrecognizable from his character on the film.
